Match sharpness is about being there and hitting the target when the chance comes. We don't have anyone else in the squad who I have seen can do that. Higdons goals in recent games show he can hit the target with head and feet.

In League One when the balls bouncing around in the box you need someone who is right place, right time.

sorry mate...somebodies been at the photoshop there, this was the original..

I don't think Baxter is fat... I think he's just built on the stocky side. He swapped shirts after the Bradford match and there certainly wasn't a paunch there. I'm sure the same goes for Higdon. Both look as though they need to improve their fitness, but it isn't an issue of weight.

When the current players were suited and booted at the 125 evening, it was clear how tiny they were, particularly round their waists. Anyone approaching normal size looks big against them - it also doesn't help when you're in a side with a few players at 5'8" or below.

Inconclusive! Sometimes the camera throws a bad light on me late at night!o_O Red stripes are less complimentary than green too!

BTW are the management saying he's not fit now? Surely not.

There's no red and white stripes on his chin though. He looks a little jowelly to me.

Do people really think that renouned disciplinarian Nigel Clough would have an overweight player in his first team?

I'm not slim, far from it but no matter how much training I did I'd never be able to wear skinny jeans: I've just inherited a rugby player's build from my dad (also not a rugby player). For every moDtheGod there's someone like me.

Ollessendro , on the other hand....

When he scored
He looked reasonable enough in his brief cameo last night, Woody. His first attempt at a header was laughable, but he settled down and held it up quite well. His presence on the pitch (one for Bergen Blade to look at) caused MK Dons to go much tighter and narrower at the back, which created space wide for both Murphy and JCR which created the chances for both goals. He aint John Francis quick across the floor, but that's not what he's here for.

When he signed I had a look at his youtube videos and my first thought was that he could do what Shipperley did for us in the promotion season, i.e. use his size to good effect, dominate defenders and become a crowd favorite. When he's scored I've always been looking forward to watching how he's played, hoping that he'd be starting to find form. But every time I've been disappointed with his performances, especially that defenders have dominated him, i.e. he's the one who's gone to ground and lost headers, and he's looked very immobile.

Regarding his aerial ability, so far he's been struggling with straight balls, but looks a real threat when crosses have come in from wide. With JCR and Murphy (supported by Harris) I think there's reason to hope that he'll get the service he needs, i.e. lots of crosses and good movement around him. As we've seen with many players, maybe he's just needed a bit more time to settle.

Jan Molby, Malcolm McDonald, Billy Whitehurst, Dean Windass,Glyn Hodges, Yaya Toure, Ian Botham, any heavyweight boxer.

Stocky builds as fit as fleas.

Higdon and Baxter are not overweight, a criticism always mentioned when they don't play at their top level.

I can also think of thousands of very thin poor footballers.

Calling a professional fat is a big insult. Look at Higdon scoring goals on YouTube, he was the same size then. Baxter is only 22, it's just how he is.

I also know loads of fast, lively players who run around a lot and yet can't pass the ball and have no footballing sense.

Wait till Higdon & Baxter next have a bad game or miss an easy opportunity and you will be calling them overweight. ;)

Interestingly enough, the team may be working him out a bit more. Direct balls in last night, down the middle seemed to be more to feet than his head and he dealt with those OK. This way of playing allows Scougall, Reed and Baxter to get down the side of him and, like last night makes the opposition go narrower defensively giving more space for wide players.

Thank you Doris, I think we appreciate how hard it must have been for you to admit that.......

Glyn Hodges stocky build :?
I assume this is some bloke you know and not the ex United player who was tall and slim.
Higdon not fat :?
When he signed he had a double chin!

Still.
Makes about as much sense as Baxter a footballer.

Hodges tall and slim? !!!! If he had been he would have been the perfect player. Your memory plays tricks Miserable.

Absolutely correct, you need to stand next to footballers to appreciate how skinny most of them are.

I was once invited to an event that Steve Bruce attended in his Man U playing days. A number of times I mentioned to people how slim Bruce was around the waist to huge laughter. He was always considered a "fat" player. OK Bruce is a fat twat now but he obviously doesn't run every day and he's made up for lost time in the food stakes.

Believe me he was very slim as a player.
