'Huge' support. Fuck me, this myth never stops. I wonder if people who write these articles look at stats or figures. Isn't it us that currently have the highest average attendance? Didn't we get just 5K less than their average last year in a division below, with hardly any away followings, whilst they had their best season in 17 years with the likes of villa, Leeds and Newcastle filling the away end?
 
The "huge", "massive" and general attendance crap is only an issue if you make it one.

No one ever takes into account that when it was a standing ground and before segregation the big clubs could bring 20K away fans and they could all get in.

Only thing massive is Hirsts, Waddles, Sterlands and Tangos guts and the amount of flood water it holds.

Facebook had a live stream of Richard Cresswell and David Prutton talking about the build up. Prutton asked which of the clubs Cresswell preferred being at and, diplomatic though the answer was, he said United. Specifically, he said that the set up of the club was more his kind of thing.

It might be a tedious argument for many, but ultimately when both clubs hardly ever win a trophy, the average attendance argument is probably the best barometer of which club is the biggest. Our support has undoubtedly increased in recent seasons, for reasons I can't fathom. At a time when the pigs have been in the Championship for 5 years and us in the "Pub League" we've seen a steady 18,500 average and then the 21,000 last season. Wednesdays has if anything decreased, given they averaged 23,000 the time they were in League One under Sturrock but then averaged 21,300 when they got promoted despite a Sheffield derby, the 37,000 against Wycombe on the last day of the season and the 28,000 against Huddersfield, they still averaged less than we did last season - 21,800

So all in all the support for both teams is remarkable and although it varies by the odd thousand here and there both teams over the last 15 years are around the 20,000 - 26,000 average but don't forget Wednesday are massive and we're tin pot of course!

Our attendances are in my opinion down to 2 positives:
1. The Board has been sensible with pricing over several years, in particular building up the youngsters' support.
2. Wilder & co came in like a breath of fresh air, and gave us what we have been calling out for for years - passion, good football, a sense of direction, unity.
Long may it last.

We actually did better than the 18,500 average I mentioned. In fact we were just short of 20,000 in the Adkins season and Clough's last one. As you say the pricing has been decent whereas Wednesdays hasn't of late but many Wednesday fans although critical of the pricing feel ok with it because they've done well of late.

I think it's a mis quote what was probably said was "Tango's is a full weight t***, thank god he's at the sty with the rest of the deluded morans"

Yesterday on Talksport Danny Kelly, ably standing in for Durham, was talking about the Derby. 'You can see what's going to happen can't you, Wednesday have been trying to get in the PL for a few years, but United, straight out of league 1, are going to beat them to it. '.
We can dream can't we ?
