Ben Heneghan and Nathan Thomas have both left Bramall Lane on season-long loans.

Heneghan, 24, has joined Blackpool, whilst Thomas, 23, has penned a deal with Notts County, with both players leaving with immediate effect.

Defender Heneghan signed from Motherwell in August 2017, but made just one appearance for United last season, starting against Preston North End in the fourth round of the FA Cup in January.

Meanwhile, midfielder Thomas arrived at United from Hartlepool United in the summer of 2017 and made three appearances in all competitions for Chris Wilder's side last term. He spent time on loan at Shrewsbury Town at the end of the season.

Both were highlighted as available by boss Wilder earlier this summer.

As it stands aside from our regular 3 cb's we have cover in Jake Wright & at a push Dan Lafferty & Ryan Leonard?

Am I missing somebody? We must have someone lined up coming in

I'm assuming that we can't sell them which again I'd assume can only be down to wages. Especially since Thomas has a good low league reputation.

Did we perhaps buy Thomas hoping to convert him into an attacking wing-back? Can't see where he fits in to our formation otherwise. I still think there's a decent player in there somewhere.

There is definitley a "different" player to what we have, pace to spare and a shot like a rocket, hope he does well at Notts County.

I know Wilder doesn't use out and out wingers but it's disappointing Thomas hasn't had any real chance thus far.

Just hope we can get a couple in, as other teams in the league are snapping up some good players, especially Forest, who look to be following the Wolves/Fulham mould, and buying their way to the prem.
Kasey Palmer looks almost certain to go to Derby after Lampard cupped Abrhamavic's balls and polished his bell.

So realistically, we could be in for Gallagher, but who else is a realistic target??
I think we definitely need to look at a new CB, 2 up front, and maybe 1 in mid-field??
I'd like a LWB too but I don't think we're financially strong enough to get real quality in every position.

Wish these lads well, thought Thomas was going to turn into a good signing, he can certainly hit a shot from outside the 18, something we've lacked for a few years!

Its lovely
Did you honestly think any would get in the team when we signed them though? I'm not a fan of signing squad fillers.
I agree, to a point. But similarly, the vast majority of youngsters fail to make it too, then along comes a David Brooks.

Wilder is / was fishing in the pond of cast off’s / maybes. Little point in then judging the ones that don’t come off.

Both ones for the future but presumably Wilder thinks that they haven't impressed as much as he hoped for. Although they seem a waste of money I think its best to see them as long shots anyway as they were both from lower leagues/Scotland and small transfer fees - compared to rival clubs. For every type of signing like this I'd be pleased if half of them came off. Overall Wilder has done amazingly with the likes of JOC, Fleck, Clarke, Stevens, Baldock who were all small buys from reserve clubs or the lower leagues. Thomas was only 200,000 I think and Heneghan 400,000 so maybe we should be more disappointed in the latter deal.

Hope they both do well, there's clearly talent there.

Frees up wages of course maybe now we can spend it on Grabban or Hogan ha ha ha! We could sign their right hand's little thumb (nail)

What's George Baldock's brother at Brighton doing these days......Sam?

Two pointless signings along with Holmes and Ched.

They're both obviously works in progress, what's your problem?

GLTTL's, both probably not going to be in first team contention and will get game time at a decent level

Not much I don't think. He's being mentioned before as a possible from fans on here. Not sure how good he is to be honest.

Saw him play in the cup I think for them. He looks like he needs game time. Not getting games at Brighton says to me that he's not getting double figures in the Premier League though, got 11 in the Championship when they went up.

I don't know how long their contracts are but it'd be interesting to see if there are purchase clauses at the end of the deal
