Name our 'good' performances so far this season

We have better individuals than everyone other than Leeds and Burnley.

Looking across all the attacking statistics, we are between 8th-10th in almost everything. 3rd in the majority of key statistics defensively.

8th best attack, 3rd best defence probably feels about right. Leeds are first in pretty much every positive statistic at both ends

I really don't think we are a possession based team at all.

Quite the opposite.

I'd be surprised if we haven't had less of the ball in most of our games, to be honest.
We very rarely score a goal from patient build-up.
Yeah, we all expect to be bossed by the opposition when we play away from home, but it’s happening more and more at Bramall Lane now.

This stuff is so tiresome. You’d never know we were top of the league. At some point the people moaning are going to look back on this and feel embarrassed. Imagine supporting a team top of the league and spending all of your team moaning when we don’t get three points every game.
I will not look back at this and be embarrassed 😂😂 complete fucking horseshit

It's a discussion about the performances this season, not wishing we don't get promoted

Jesus wept

Wah wah you entitled c**t bedwetter t**t.
There, got it in before you lot could.

I'm intrigued to what the thoughts are on this.

Inarguable: Oxford, Luton and Boro @ home / Blackburn and QPR away

Opinion based (not necessarily mine): Wednesday, Sunderland and Leeds @ home / Hull, Cardiff and Preston away

Even being a bit generous with those, I'm struggling to come up with more than 11 games we've played well in. I wouldn't say one or two in the line above were good performances, but I'm happy to concede to others who might.

It's just dismal dross for 2/3 of the season so far. And plenty more to come. Yay!
The lazy coaching needs to stop. Entertain your 'punters' Chris and maybe they won't leave before the injury time board comes up.
Just a thought.

Anyone else got any to add to the 'good' performances?

A win is a win as they say. I only get to home games so my opinion is based on matches at the Lane. I’m tactically clueless never having played the game beyond the age of 17. I’ve no pretensions to understanding the finer points of the game. As a fan however, I’m struggling to think of when I last enjoyed a game, I didn’t get to the Boro game.

Plymouth, Portsmouth, Burnley, Bristol City and Hull played much the better football during our matches, and in the games we won,( narrowly), we should have lost.

It seems churlish to grumble when we’ve been top two all season. My nerves are shattered every home game and last night was disappointing from start to finish. We have some fantastic players who are a joy to watch which is a saving grace

Seriously doubting whether I’ll get a season ticket next year whatever the division.

I’ll go and have a cry now

Why are some people incapable having a debate about our lacklustre performances without getting aggressive or suggesting some sort of porcine influence?…I mean, It is a forum after all.
Because people have very very small brains

I just find it mad how much you moan when we don’t win considering how well we’re doing. I don’t understand how any normal bloke can’t take a step back and think “yeah maybe this is a bit ridiculous” in the context. Even that in itself isn’t a ridiculous thing to say but “Jesus wept” etc etc

Why are we pigs then mate?
Or is that aimed at me specifically for daring to be a bit unhappy with the performances this season? 😂
You aren't a pig, but if I were sad enough to infiltrate their forum I imagine I'd have a similar attitude to yours on here: permanently negative and constantly feeding Blades talking points into their discussions.

for those that are moaning & think wilder has been lucky & underperforming. who else would you rather have in the dugout

Things like this are always going to come down to personal opinion.

If people want to have a go at the performances, fair enough that's their opinion.

Personally, I don't mind these tight wins as it shows good mentality, and 9 times out of 10 we win those games, especially against some decent sides.

Portsmouth and Plymouth weren't good performances from us but those teams (despite their league positions) came to the Lane and had a go, same way that Norwich and Middlesbrough came (in better league positions) and were poor.

League positions are never guarantees of beating teams (e.g 2nd beats 23rd) in any league of football, especially in the Championship.

Hull drew 3-3 with Leeds, beat us 0-3 and Sunderland 0-1 in the space of a few weeks, despite having been in the bottom 6/7 all season, they've had a bad season despite picking up points in decent games because they turned up in those games.

Great post and as someone who has been to every game this season in all comps I’d like to think I’ve a good idea on our performances this year. I don’t think we’ve been outstanding in more than 4/5 games which is sort of unheard of to say we’ve played 37 games. It’s such a weird watch this season because the entitlement of a good percentage of our supporters is actually very depressing, the style of football or should I say lack of style is also quite depressing which isn’t helping the atmosphere out at all. We’re relying on individual quality of the same 2/3 players to get us the results. As soon as we take the lead we just invite pressure on, never seem to kill a game off. Our players look fucked after 50 minutes every single week. What are they doing in training?
But then when we eventually concede our players are like oh wtf we actually need to go forward now and attack and it’s like fuck me why can’t we do that when we’ve just broken the deadlock.

Very weird vibe/season this.

No I know I'm not thanks for your validation, oh mighty blade 😂😂😂😂

Permanently negative is an interesting take, considering my threads about Seriki and Arblaster (their two recurring player threads) are literally the most positive you'll read. So, not permanent then?

Entertaining performances. Go on. Feed into the debate, tell me I'm wrong (hint; you can't)

Tbf I was making a more general point about your recent threads and you must understand where I’m coming from a bit. I like a lot of your posts but I just think there’s a lot of unrealistic expectations.

If you really deep football as a sport and the reason why people enjoy it, it’s not because you’re entertained for 90 minutes. It’s because the highs are so incredible. It’s because of the atmosphere of watching it with your mates. It’s everything around it. Most matches I’ve seen throughout my life that I care about are usually tense affairs full of me mostly feeling nervous, sometimes elated, occasionally gutted. But mostly tense. If someone told me they wanted to watch something entertaining, I wouldn’t take them to a football match.

For someone who constantly bemoans other posters for not engaging with the point you're making, focusing one word of mine which was an exaggeration is ironic.

I'd add Watford (h) to the list of strong performances. They arrived having won their first three and fancied themselves. We controlled the game and thoroughly deserved the victory.

Throughout that early season run of nine home league games without conceding, I think most of us were happy enough not to be setting the division alight, as the calm, measured approach meant we felt we were towards the top on merit, anyway. Our style of play seemed like something to build upon that could even give us some sort of chance at the level above with the recruitment of some attacking flair.

Injuries then upset the apple cart with, through necessity, some dubious January recruitment decisions following on.

Since then, the difference is that we have picked up wins looking anything but calm or composed, with a regular feeling that the whole thing will inevitably come crashing down, be it via a routine playoff disappointment or, should we scrape through to promotion, another assault on all the wrong records.

There's hope, but we need better luck with injuries and suspensions, pick the right settled side and start to rebuild some belief.

Bar about 6-7 all of them. You can't consistently win games at any level playing poorly. It's a weird myth on here that's given far more credence than it deserves. Most of our performers are 6-8 with the odd one below a 5.

I think there are a few points here.

1. Wilder has done incredibly well to transition the squad and get us in automatic promotion contention. We're much higher than I thought we'd be.
2. This has been done with both a lot of injuries/small squad but he's also been backed more than most other teams, if not all.
3. Our performance have been largely poor/boring with small moments/periods of excellent play. When we went up with Hecky we had halves but out good play is limited to 20-30 minutes.
4. It has been less entertaining than out last to promotions, with defence the emphasis for the most part.
5. He picks 4 attacking players and yet we rarely have high shot or xg numbers.
6. We've won a lot of games by small margins. Some of those felt comfortable. An increasing amount haven't. We've been luckier than usual. Teams haven't punished us, mostly.
7. After 60 minutes half our players look shot but our pressing is nothing like it was so it feels like a slog but without any real explanation.

With an almost complete team rebuild why do some fans feel we should even be in the top half, nevermind actually top of the league?

So we probably should be playing like a bottom half side, and not entertaining like the billionaire one club city teams. I wonder how many scintillating performances fans of Preston, QPR and Stoke can point to. 3 random teams from top of my head

Just IMO
You do realise we have one of the highest wage bills in the league...

Bottom half, come on.

All 24 wins and 7 draws.

Please don’t conflate things, It’s perfectly fine to be critical of Chris Wilder without actually wanting him out of the club…

What a bunch of self entitled fannies we have on here. Slim man and the usual suspects slagging their own team off.

There have been plenty of good games particularly earlier in the season. Think about all the injuries we have suffered. Souza, Soutter and Arblaster being absolutely critical ones. We had a complete rebuild last summer working on a tight budget and most on here predicted mid table. Not challenging for automatic.

We are not playing like prime Barcelona so the key board warriors come out. Get a life and support your team instead of continually moaning.

Horrific viewing? Are you watching the same games I am? Your attitude reeks of entitlement.

The reality of the matter is that our previous owner lacked the funds to have a proper go at the Premier League. It appears (at least on first impressions) our new owners do not lack funds. It's unreasonable and slightly naïve to assume that if we did get promoted that it would be a repeat of last season.
Many scorelines have flattered us and from where I'm looking we've been very lucky in quite a few home games, we could have lost several more than just the Hull game and we'd have no grounds to complain based upon the performances. There seems to be glaring issues with fitness and conditioning of our players and it's worrying how often substitutions seem to make us significantly worse.

I do have some confidence that next season, should we be in the Prem, it won't be quite the unmitigated disaster of last season, in terms of summer transfer activity to improve the squad. But let's not get ahead of ourselves, if we keep playing like we have been recently, we won't go up.
