First of all well done to the eleven that finished the game. It improved dramatically and we showed character. Secondly it should not simply cover up some of the shocking deficiencies we have that need addressing without further delay. Here are my main observations:-

Observation 1
We look far more comfortable playing in a 4-3-3. We should lead with that in future.

Observation 2
We would be up shit creek without Billy Sharp. His goal aside he seemed like the only one of our two forwards that touched the ball first half.

Observation 3
Baxter once again proved that whilst he can be total shit some games, he offers an intelligence that very few of our other players have and that he can make a difference. He's a luxury but we need a better team to be able to carry him.

Observation 4
Edgar will get stick for the two goals and arguably its deserved but.....he was the only defender that got near to a cross or a high ball for most of the game. It wasn't one of his better days but I would sooner see a defender trying to do that right thing and failing than three that can't get near the football.

Observation 5 (Probably the most important)
Freeman, Collins, McEveley, Woolford all not good enough. We can't afford to carry four players that offer nothing. All need replacing immediately.

Observation 6
Reed and McNulty need to pull their finger out much earlier in the game and play like they did in the last 25 minutes. Learn fast boys or end up like those in observation 5.

Summary:
Address 1, 5 and 6 whilst remembering 2,3 and 4. Only then will we start to make progress.

Observations 4 & (in part) 5 way off the mark IMO. Edgar was appalling today. And Freeman not good enough??????

Where did I say Edgar played well? Can you recall any of our other defenders doing anything.....anything at all?

Freeman is shocking mate. I'm not even sure where he was on the first goal.

Adkins must take some blame , Bradford are direct , lump it to Hanson and get it in the box, second half he changed it and pushed them back and cut out their threat

Adkins must take some blame ,

I'm forced to agree to some extent because he continues to start players that aren't up to it. On the other hand he's inherited what he's got and when you've been as successful as he has it's difficult to blame him for our problems.

Alcock was fine, 2nd half. Freeman was solid throughout. Collins had a decent game. Edgar on the other hand - everything he touched turned to shite.

Freeman's had an excellent season so far, both defensively & when going forward - can't fault him.

We'll have to agree to differ on this one, we obviously see the game very differently.

I'm sorry but I can't take you seriously after that post. The comment about Alcock is the only redeeming bit but not enough to make up for the rest of that post. No offence but I'm leaving it there.

I think Freeman has been decent so far. He's not at Brayford's level by any stretch, but he's done well in spells.

Got to say that their second goal was very lucky - though our first had a lot of luck too. Baxter saved us at the end. Hindsight is easy , but dropping him was probably a mistake.

Iave been told luck has NOTHING TO DO WITH IT

We werent then lucky when they headed us back into the game

A mistake, or a much-needed kick up the arse? He came on looking-fired up – I suggest he might not have been had he been retained after what sounded like a poor game Tuesday.

Surprised by the comments on Freeman – thought he had a decent game on the whole. Collins was average – missed a great chance from a header second half too. McEveley was very poor. Edgar had a mare – decision-making looked all over the place. Put it down as an off-day for him, as he really has been a decent player in other games this season, rather than this being a continuing trend.

Is anyone going to point out JCR didn't track the full back?

It was JCR's man. Freeman was watching the left winger, JCR just decided to stop tracking the left back.

JCR was ineffective throughout , not one forward ball or cross comes to mind
need 11 contributing on the park had far less than that first half

That's ok then, let the right back follow the left winger. We don't need anyone in that position when the ball drops into that area. Strewth give me strength!

The right back tracks the left winger, the right winger tracks the left back. That's how it works.

To be fair, in that first half so many of them were invisible.

Mcnulty, JCR, Woolford. And the only ones that stick out are the people who made the mistakes.

Oh sorry Jose Mourinho I didn't know you had the one and only formula locked down. Makes you wonder why we and many other teams make it look so difficult at times.

At best you can say the left winger has done a very good job at dragging him out of position. It's not ok for him not to be there. A right sided midfield player may need to track a runner but it's not his job to be in the right backs position when the ball drops. Staying with a left winger that isn't making a forward run isn't a valid excuse.

What are you on about? The one and only formula? It's basic defending in a 442.
JCR should have tracked him until he was picked up. I just don't see how you can argue otherwise?
I don't need to be Mourinho to know that, I don't even need to be Micky Adams.

Never mind. I'm just picturing managers at the top level everywhere telling the full back not to worry about their position because the wide midfield player will track every run and cover it for them.

Lol

You do realise that Mourinho sold de Bruyne and dropped Oscar because they failed to track back?

Can you see him telling his full backs 'you'll have to mark two players because my wide players can't be arsed to do their defensive jobs'?

I think we tend to agree on most things Mr Suffeaux but I think you are well wide of the mark regarding Freeman ,first name on team sheet for me along with Sharp and Howard.
