Another convincing win from United showing that the team may be promoted but is not yet done with business and with players with a point to prove for next season now we are promoted. The side was 'relaxed' somewhat with Basham, Bogle and Norwood back in but nevertheless set out to do something with Preston who frankly had fuck all to offer or anything to play for. It was also good to do a like-for-like comparison and get some gauge as to where we are and what we need, if anything from a casual observer's point of view. It's evident however as clinical a win as this was, we still need strengthening in areas and can't look at this team today beating a soft PNE side as PL oven-ready.

The defence today even with Bash looked pretty solid. I missed the North End goal as my firestick was shitting bullets, so can't comment on what went wrong there but it seemed Anel's trial position in the Egan billet was playable and Bash added that wisdom if at times a bit uncharacteristically profligate with the passing. With Hecky still insistent on a more robust if (in the first half at least) unproductive 3-4-2-1 Norwood and Doyle was a good way of figuring out who was the better DM whilst outside of them the test was on for Bogle and Lowe. Up top we have Billy longing for 250 goals (after which I feel he will hang up his boots as job-done) supported by the ever crafty Ndaiye and McAtee. The chances were there ... McAtee just doesn't do one-on-ones and Norwood's free kick was good but too central but we contained Preston more than lost ground to them. Anel's goal was typical of him outjumping the defence and deserved for him and we could certainly do something more kicking toward the Shoreham End at five past four if anything succumb to a goal. But as soon as we lost the flagging Sharp to a more productive and hungry attacker and the puzzling change out of Fleck for McAtee produced an equally surprising outcome we were finally on our way. NDaiye's goal was straight out of the Deane and Agana playbook and some provenly Premier League level short-pass-find-the-cross play found McBurnie shedding his pub-style to elegantly scissor kick the ball in for the fourth.

Overall It was pleasing end-of-season-we're-on-a-roll stuff and I can't see either Hudds or Birmingham getting anything out of us either. It's been a very deserved and worthy season end and we've bloody well deserved it too.

Foderingham 6/10: Not a massive amount to do but a few low saves
Bogle 6.5/10: Much better from him if not of his old capability. He is a more attack minded RWB than George that is true which is why I feel he is better in a 4-4-2 as RW.
Basham 7/10: Wisdom and vision from him with a couple of ricks, but overall a steady game for him
Anel 7.5/10: Coped very well with headers and tackles and intercepts. Well taken goal too. Clumsy tackle late on which was a penalty which wouldn't have helped us
Robinson 7.5/10: Tough outing and his usual robust self.
Lowe 6/10: Another better performance from him. Still don't rate him though.
Norwood 6/10: Still a bit abject at times then busy and better in short spells. He's still hollywooding needlessly though. See Jack's handball
Doyle 8/10: Everything Norwood isn't. He's here, he's there, he's every-fucking-where, Tommy Doyle, Tommy Doyle ... and far better than Norwood. He is Michael Brown.
McAtee 6/10: Again ... not much dropped for him. And one-on-ones ...
NDaiye 7.5/10: Always dangerous, always creative. Never lets anyone sleep does he?
Sharp 5/10: Nowhere near it I am afraid.

Jebbison 7/10: Started slow and somewhat fragile but found his feet and began to impose, big-style. Dogged determination got NDaiye his goal
Fleck 7/10: A surprising substitution and even more so with his goal, another Jebbo assist too. Played pretty much okay
Egan 5/10: Didn't see much of him
McBurnie 6/10: Good finish from him for his goal
Berge 7.5/10: Cameo appearance for him but a satisfying demonstration of his capability

HJ&SMcC 8/10: Very impressive stuff and a typical Hecky-style duke-it-out-in-the-first-half-then-hit-them-in-the-second tactics. It worked and it was impressive

Love it pomps big love

Sharp was awful, Jebbo was very good, pace and showed some strength, looks like a basketball player, seems to have grown 5 inches this season
Berge looked class when he came on

Sad to see Billy who is now but a shadow of his former self, Jebbo looking a much better option, pace, power and terrified the Preston defenders who previously were coping with Billy easily. Berge looked a different level, him Ndiaye and Anel look Premier league ready.

You mention Anel`s "clumsy tackle". I had an excellent view of that from the John Street stand. He got the ball. Ref had a good position too.

Great report Pommpey, again slow first half we can't do that in the Premier League. much better in the second half. I would try to keep Illi and Berge and Anel.be great if we can get the Man City lads back on loan next season. Doyle and Mcatee have been fantastic. Walker is he is willing to take a pay cut. need the takeover sorted asap. if not Dozy someone else. apparently, the Wrexham Yankees want to buy another club. Anyway, let's get the season over first.can,t wait until the fixtures come out in June.UP THE BLADES.

Anel’s best position is the centre of the back three.. so is Egan’s… I suppose it’s good cover.

Cheers Pomps. Love the Agana and Deane reference on the Ndiaye goal. Spot on. Would probably bump Norwood up a point for his “pre-assists” for Fleck’s goal (his ball out for Jebbison was very very composed and pretty) and his little touch to Basham for McBurnie’s goal was very clever, too. UTB.

Should point out that Preston did have something to play for and were still challenging for a play-off place before the game. Not anymore.

It was great to see us 'with the shackles off' for a change. I know you can't approach every game like that and we'll have to be even more disciplined in the Premier League. It just shows though that we can play really good football when we want to.

Good report

Thought Lowe was an 8 today - did really well and played some nice linking stuff - all be it against a woeful side

Jebbo was great also even if the above still applies
