I have to agree with Pompey. Norwood was poor. two poor freekicks otherwise did nowt.no were near our best player in the last twenty years. you must be having a laugh for a start, Berge is better.

The opposition know if they close down Norwood quickly we don't have another creative outlet, so it's easy for them to double up on him. When Berge was playing, he offered another threat and forced teams to edge their bets (and usually double on Berge, giving Norwood more time and space)

Until Berge gets back (or we sign another midfielder) we will always have this problem.

In an ideal world we keep Berge and his fit after the world cup and in the Jan transfer window, we can bring in another attacker (I'd like Archer)

The argument can be made that Berge is a better player - But Norwood was quite convincingly our best midfielder in what was arguably our best ever period of football as a club.

Even now, when he has a good game we win - When he has practically zero support from his other midfielders.

4/10 for Norwood...jeez... he was the one showing and trying to do something all night. Don't think weekly hating on our best midfielder for last 20 years is warranted tbh

Weekly hating? On Saturday he got a 9.5/10. He played very well and was instrumental in snuffing out Burnley and creating our goals and chances. Last night he'd reset to bobbar. And 'best midfielder for 20 years? That 20 years envelopes Brown, Tonge, Montgomery. McCall, Jagielka, Murphy, McDonald and Coutts. Try if you will to justify Norwood being above even three of them with regard capability over time at the club. Since lockdown and up until well into this year he has been serially shite issuing the same old cack and us suffering for it. When people say we'll miss him, I say 'we won't' because his absence will allow the team to move on and progress in something else that this fucking 5-3-2 which seemingly is built just for him and Egan to fuck about passing it across the backline and hitting the wings with predictable punts

Stop it. Just stop posting objective and reasoned critiqes. It isn't allowed .

I know. You criticise a football player and it's as if I have called their mum a cunt. Norwood was universally acknowledged as sloppy bob last night. He wasn't a patch on Saturday but let's face it, opposition teams 'allow' him to lay well rather than him crafting a game for himself. Burnley laid off him. Toytown snuffed him out, Its the story of Norwood

Not like you to habitually find something to disagree with.

Sorry ! I do agree with most of your posts and enjoy reading them.
Like most fans we sometimes differ on what we have watched !🤪

Lots of stats given about scoring directly from free kicks, agree this is not as frequent as people believe. But the point that both Pommpey and I are making is that if you fire it off target, usually over the bar in Norwood's case, it is dead in terms of play.
Beckham always said hit the target area. It may go straight in, but make the keeper save it.
There can all manner of follow up play following a rebound, parry, dropped ball, off the post, bar etc....
So, maybe not many worldy's go straight in, but I bet the stats for goals scored in the follow up to a direct free kick are much higher.
Nuff said.

Norwood is like a cut price version of CR7 and he doesn't demand 100k a week, very often his plays on the pitch are misread but he is very very team orientated. In my opinion, he is better used as a sub and brought off the bench when needed.
