Good report Pomps. Don't think we were that bad but didn't do anything like enough once we went behind. The injures are killing us and although they are mostly in defence, it's affecting us going forward. Bogle was finished by 50 minutes but had to stay on because there was nobody else. This meant RND couldn't get forward as he knew Bogle couldn't recover. Bash couldn't get forward 2nd half as he knows Khadra wouldn't cover him because he's not a defender.

First half we were fine but wasted the ball in good areas. I still felt we would go on to win but the Baldock injury coupled with Doyle and Berge completely running out steam meant we didn't have enough energy or inventiveness to break down a solid QPR.

The loss isn't a huge setback in itself but another 2 injuries (at least) is really concerning. I don't see how we pick up points against anyone half decent with the players we have available at the back.

Yes - disappointing result. Had to watch on Red Button due to own injury, and what struck me was the slow pace of everything in the first half- every stoppage resulted in an age before the free kick was taken. Doyle was caught off guard for their goal, letting Willock run free. Berge out of game for long periods, Norwood passing to the corner flag. Best to draw a veil over this performance. Let's move on.

If you turn the games round like
Swansea away 1-1 D
Preston away 1-0 L
Birmingham home 1-0 W
QPR home 2-0 W
It doesn’t hurt as much and still top.

If you don’t like it - don’t read it - he’s not asking you to agree or read it for that matter

The only yawn is your response
Unless the “yawn” related to the game, in which case I would agree with him.

Only  two three comments from me:
1. Brewster isn't an impact sub. Start him and sub him if it isn't working, but don't use him as a sub!
2. Subbing Doyle was a mistake.
3. McBurnie 🤦

Is it any wonder that people think there is an agenda against McBurnie, when we lose a game that hardly anyone played particularly well - And he's the single person that gets picked out?

god report by Pompey. That was a penalty kicked him then grabin Billy,s shirt with both hands.
Yes, it was a below-par performance by United. poor referee poor linesmen.
hope Ahmedhodzic is fit soon.

Billy’s heart and effort there for all to see but he’s well off the pace. Hopefully mainly down to match fitness. Injuries apart, can only see him in a subs role.

We've regressed back into wilderball and the dreaded flat 3 in the middle. Yesterday it was a deep 3 as QPR pressed us back up the pitch. Agree too often this happens and we don't possess the midfield runners to get past organised defences.

Wilderball is simply negated by flooding the flanks knowing the ball is rarely played down the middle whilst the opposition play needless triangles down the wings enabling the defenders to get out their deck chairs out whilst waiting for the ball to be crossed into the box. Ask Boro fans whose team are in the relegation zone where possession stats get you.

We are completely unbalanced having only 1 left footed player in the outfield 10 which contributes to our painful slow build up play. The management of injuries has caught up with us and will continue to do so until there is a conscious effort off field to overhaul our outdated training and medical management facilities. With the Prince in town you would hope this is high on the agenda should we manage to achieve promotion but don't hold your breath

We huffed and puffed but never got near breaking down QPR's defence. The opportunity to put some distance between us and the chasing pack has been lost. Having said all that we were denied a blatant penalty but that wouldn't have papered over the numerous cracks now appearing.

Time to reset and create a plan for wrapping Anel in cotton wool for the rest of the season as the following stats reveal;

With Anel P8 W6 D2 L0
Without Anel P3 W0 D1 L2

No agenda for me - he's been doing very well - but reverted to his previous incarnation tonight.
And he isn't singled out - just one of many who were poor.
I am sick of excuses being made for Berge , he's tired , he's played too deep - bollocks ! He needs to man-up and take hold of games with his own initiative & skill - he will never fulfill his huge potential by hiding for 75 minutes.
Bash & Egan look half asleep , both miles behind RND.
Norwood constantly feeding Bogle on L at halfway line - wtf does he think Bogle can do on his wrong foot from there ? Just dumb.
Partly Hecky mistake - if Bogle is better playmaker than Baldock , FFS put Bogle on his R foot + attack down the R !!!
Doyle best mf but gets hooked.
Brewster comes on but what does he add ?
If half your team are not at the races , you'll tend to lose games.
Some soul-searching needed in that dressing-room ...
"C'mon lads , do you actually want your promotion bonus ?"
We are at a fork in the road.
Norwich , Burnley , Watford etc are waking up.
It's in your hands.

No doubt Anel has been the catalyst this season - but wrapping him in cotton wool might impact his running 😉😃

Done Anel a disservice its actually with him P8 W7 D1 L0 the only draw being Boro away, he didn't play at Luton. Without him looks worse P4 W0 D2 L2.

You do know that McBurnie got booked AFTER the game had finished meaning he now serves a ban? 🤨

Disappointing, for all the possession we didn’t look like scoring, they looked more threatening even though they had little opportunity in front of our goal.

Norwood made some terrible passes in promising positions and was way off with his shooting as were others. Egan was very close to being sent off with a second yellow, he was lucky not to commit a foul when he jumped in after letting the ball run away. Berge disappeared second half, but the foul on him was definitely a penalty. The substitutions didn’t offer anything although I would like to see what Khadra would be like as an out and out winger

Generally we were back to overplaying in the final third, and we do make some silly/infuriating decisions, like playing the ball short from a free kick when time is nearly up.

I saw that ref officiate a match when Villa played QPR and I have never seen anyone allow so much blatant time wasting, which started after about 10 minutes, that was when McLaren was in charge, all things considered I think we got off lightly in that respect yesterday.

Really dislike the disruption to momentum by international breaks, be really interesting to see how things pan out after the World Cup.

Managed to get a flight over and tickets for the Norwich game, first opportunity for a few years to get to BDTBL. Hopefully we will be back on song by then.

pommpey I know you picked up on McBurnie's ref management in your last report. PH described his ban as "not good enough" after her got a booking for jumping into the crowd and another for talking to refs tonight. He needs to cut it out.
He's got 2 for excessive celebration + 1 for his gobbing off - such a dickhead , but I don't know how Hecky can improve his IQ

Good report. The Brewster Billy switch achieved nothing. Once again totally blanked by taller stronger defenders after taking an age to chip the ball in. So much has been down to Ndiaye individual brilliance. we need more movement and balls into feet in the box. Mcburnie laughably slow at one point when a break was on.
When totally unmarked McB got a lovely through ball over his shoulder which was inch perfect for him to run onto + clear into the box .... So what did he do (bearing in mind the pitch is wet & zippy) ?
Yep , the daftie HEADED it straight over the byline.
He's got some nice goals this season when there's no time for him to think .... But give him time to apply his mind + you see just how thick he is.
Same with the bookings he asks for.
His heart might be in the right place but there's nothing between his ears.
Nothing that coaching can do about it.

Spot on report. They were direct and getting the ball forwards quickly, we were the complete opposite. Lots of sideways and backwards rubbish leading to a ball out to one of the wing backs, Baldock can't cross a ball at all and Bogle wanted to come inside all the time. McBurnie doesn't make the run across his man either so the cross has to be pretty good (and rarely is) to find him.

RND MoM by a mile, the rest were average to poor.

QPR even brought all their best players off towards the end and we still did nothing.
Bogle should have been on the R side

There's a wide gulf between Anel & Basham - and that's on the R side.
With only RND available , the L is fucked.
5 at the back can't work if you don't have a L footer for LWB.

I just agree what nany have said here:
Berge was nonseen
Khadra and Bogle had good energy ans drive, but missed the finishing step
Bash and Billy been bit off.

Before and last season there was times when Bash looked best player on our team, but he hasn't been such reliable asset this season and Billy after long rest/injury hasn't been even near the leading force he has been for us.

We've had good run of games and I'm not writing us off or even being pessimistic after this one result, but this kinda shows how we are when missing just one or two players, which is kinda worrying.

Makes me wonder how big turn around are we facing if we hit the jackpot and get promoted this season, which seems very possible.

Thanks for the report, I would have given Doyle 2 points less because as much as I like him and we need to keep him I`m sure he was the one at fault for their goal as he just let their player run past him and seemed to lose interest in tracking him.

There were a few opportunities last night where they had pushed men on and we could have got the ball forward from the keeper a lot quicker. We did this for the first 10 mins but afterwards we opted to roll the ball out to Egan and then into midfield, then back again, then wide, then back again, then into midfield.........

You point out that we've done it previously, this backs up my point, we got to 1st in the league by playing on the front foot. We've now got to the top and gone back to being cautious in our approach.

I'm not saying we do it every time but we seem to have gone from looking to move the ball forwards to just being happy to go sideways and backwards.
Yes,I thought Wes could have released the ball quicker a few times instead of waiting for us to push up the pitch and allowing QPR to get their shape behind the ball, when there was opportunity to roll the ball out quickly and launch our own counter.

Frustrating display ,had chances early on & if we take one of them it’s a different game . Second half we turned in one of those frustrating Wilder ball performances where we lacked any sort of urgency & got picked off by an opponent sitting deep . Was crying out for someone to take a player & beat him , I would have put Khadra behind the front 2 not out wide where he was most effective for Blackburn last season . Couldn’t understand taking Doyle off , he was by far our best midfielder . As for QPR they are another Huddersfield , they are hard working & organised outfit but nothing outstanding , we were off the pace & they grew in confidence . One of those nights , but still top of the league & after last nights results for the teams around us shows just how unpredictable this league can be . UTB ⚔️
