I have posted quite a few on Old Photos for no reason whatsoever. Mind you not recently. I'll post some more on there If you like.Would be good if you could share them all, for those of us who no longer live in the city, given that admission is free anyway
Sorry Mick, didn't see this post before I posted further down thread. We never found out. The guy with the red and white scarf is called Brett
The white building, which is on the junction of Carwood Rd & Saville St East, was in 1969 a top end joinery establishment specialising in bar, , fitting. Here's another image for you all to enjoy.View attachment 145313
That's correct. At the time I took the photograph I didn't know him. But he was such a huge guy he stood out. He moved on to Park Hill and Claywood. His brother Roger was regularly in the Parkway.Sorry Mick, didn't see this post before I posted further down thread.
Brett Speddings I believe, was a face around town late 60"s, early 70's. Impressively big lad whose size made him stand out.
Before you go remember you still owe me 200 quid. Can you give this a bump when it starts. 1969 is the year I moved back to Sheffield, about to start job, family, watching a good United team get promoted, etc., so a good time for me (but not for everyone, as your photos will no doubt show). I’ve got a memory like a sieve, so a reminder would be welcome. Always enjoyed your photos on here, so don’t be afraid to do a bit more advertising.
My memory is perfect when it comes to money-matters But if you want to send me your bank details…Before you go remember you still owe me 200 quid.
If you want to go the long way round. Personally, I’d turn round, go back up Carwood Road and take a right at the top.Turn right at junction for Page Hall, Fir Vale, NGH
Tis indeed and they usually have a couple of Abbeydale beers on.I think it is. It's still a hotel with a bar and gallery.
Thought I would bump this post as I've just heard the news that my exhibition will be moving to The Crucible around the 4th of January next year. This is to coincide with the musical Standing at the Sky's Edge. Quite a number of my images feature Park Hill Flats, so you can see the connection. Also, don't forget my current exhibition is on at The Psalter Lane Galley until the 3rd of January. One of my images on show is a picture of the Blade I showed earlier. The image below is from 1969.

I've lived in the States for eleven plus years and I would donate a kidney to be back in those grimy days. Made me the complete twat that I am but I'm a Sheffield twat through and throughMy God that looks grim..
Lived and grew up on Park Hill after moving from Derry in the early 80s.
To say it was a place full of characters is an understatement.
It was a mental place to live tbh!
Some fun and not so fun memories growing up there for sure!
I know someone who's in to photography and he took a picture of a lad leaning over one of the walkways talking to someone beneath. His feet are just off the ground and he said just after he took the photo the lad went over and died. Have you ever heard or seen this photo or know if it's true? All these years iv never known to believe himThought I would bump this post as I've just heard the news that my exhibition will be moving to The Crucible around the 4th of January next year. Hi Mick - Is it the same exhibition at the Crucible please as that’s a lot easier for me to get to.Thought I would bump this post as I've just heard the news that my exhibition will be moving to The Crucible around the 4th of January next year. It was an amazing place to live.My God that looks grim..
I've never heard of it. I lived on the flats for many years so either I or my brother would know the story. The photograph would have been famous news story as well. I'm calling BS.I know someone who's in to photography and he took a picture of a lad leaning over one of the walkways talking to someone beneath. It will be almost the same. There might be a few extra photographs of Park Hill. Also their big screens will run a real of a number of my photos.Hi Mick - Is it the same exhibition at the Crucible please as that’s a lot easier for me to get to.
Cheers I always thought it sounded a bit far fetchedI've never heard of it. I lived on the flats for many years so either I or my brother would know the story. The photograph would have been famous news story as well. I'm calling BS.
It's like the TV story. Which is true. A TV was thrown over a balcony and killed a little girl. Park Hill is often quoted as the horror scene, when in fact it was Hyde Park. Still very sad of course.Cheers I always thought it sounded a bit far fetched
My old playground before moving to Low Edges and luxury. Here's another image for you all to enjoy.View attachment 145313
We stayed over last night with Trig Jnr (TY) and called in there this morning and happy we did. Even Mrs Trig, Manc by birth, enjoyed it as well, although it’s not easy explaining The Hole In The Road and it’s fishtank to an interloper. That’s just up the road from Trig Jnr (TY), we’ve used it as overspill for family dos. We’ll pop in at some point.
Just got back from the exhibition (with Mrs HBT), and we both loved it. Plenty of nostalgia (the 97 bus was essential for us to see each other, great photos of the building I worked in for 37 years), very striking images, and a reminder that anyone who thinks that those of us young in the swinging 60s led a life of colour and excitement and frivolity will see that Sheffield in the 60s was far from one long love-in. Though to balance things up, it is worth remembering that the mini-dresses the lasses were wearing will have been brightly coloured.Good morning all. I have a new exhibition open to the public on 6th November at The Psalter Lane Gallery. I only have one Blades related photograph I'm afraid. All the images are from 1969 or 1970. Many of the buildings have been demolished. Entry is free. Admins delete of move If not appropriate. View attachment 145306View attachment 145308
Looks like he’s leaving the buildingMorgan Fairest Ltd…of fond? memory…
No only 1969 and 1970 which is when I had the use of college camerasWe stayed over last night with Trig Jnr (TY) and called in there this morning and happy we did. Even Mrs Trig, Manc by birth, enjoyed it as well, although it’s not easy explaining The Hole In The Road and it’s fishtank to an interloper.
A word of praise for the people at The Psalter. We arrived at 10 am, having no idea of the proper opening time, no problem they said, we normally open a bit later, but we’ll put some lights on for you. I’ve just read on here that the normal opening time is 4pm, so just a cool 6 hours early, so thank you to them.
Out of curiosity, do you have photos of other eras, or even other parts of town?
