My last season

Earlier this season i also said to the wife that i would not renew my season ticket, i fell out of love with watching football, it was all the covid stuff, premier league var rubbish , losing our identity, never having a 3 oclock kick off, i could accept losing and playing crap, after watching us since 69/70 season, seeing rubbish seems the norm but we always had an identity. Now with hecky in charge if the tickets came out tommorrow i would be purchasing mine and lads. I can see where the OP is coming from but think when the time comes he may change his mind, what else is there to do at his age
Tea dances, woodworking, model railways...

I did the same this season. I also wasn't enjoying the matchday experience either. I think it depends on how fit you are for your age. At almost 70 i have found i don't miss going much at all. I got a Firestick and watch all the games anyway . I have seen all the up's and down's since i first went in the early 60s and it's been fantastic but now it's time to hand on the baton to the new Blades on the block, Although if we get to the play-off final i will be there like a shot!
I am 73 tomorrow and still love going. I go with my son and we have a few drinks and a couple of hours at the Lane. Trouble is I get more nervous than ever even after seeing every up and down since I started going in 1959. I could watch on TV but it will never replace that live feeling, the euphoria of a late winner v Blackburn or the gut wrenching concession of the last minute goal v Forest. The only time I really felt didn't enjoy it and felt I was going only out of habit and loyalty was when Nasty Nigel, the deluded one, was in charge. If we get to a play off final I will need some sedative. Even if we don't stay up in the Prem I would love to see us win a play off final at Wembley. Knowing the Blades lucjk we will get to the 88th minute with us 3-0 in front and Putin will push the button! That last remark is meant as black humour!!

After supporting the Blades since 1967 I’ve decided to make this my last season going to the Lane , I don’t enjoy it anymore we won’t win a major Trophy in my lifetime if we go up we’ll struggle to survive, the Gap is just too big now. Football as changed so much over the years. We scored a goal and some people around me didn’t cheer they just stood there with their phone in hand filming it. Maybe I’m getting old but I’ve fallen out with the Game. And you can’t even get a pint and a pie now unless you’ve got a fucking credit card, anyway I’ll always have memories of Darlington and Leicester to take with me . Cheers.
I've been following the other SUFC since 1966 and the last three seasons of relegation, shite football, shite managers, persistent winding up orders and dropping out of the football league put me in exactly the situation that you now find yourself, and I was hanging up my season card. Then from almost nowhere we changed the backroom, coaching team and CEO and the early shoots of success have started and my appetite has returned for football, full on. You just never know what is round the corner. I wouldn't normally stick my hooter into the Blades main threads, so apologies if I'm trunking in unwanted.

I was there from the start in 1889. What stopped me going was seeing a tile fall off the old John street stand into the crowd. Never been back since but I’ve heard we built a new stand so maybe one day I’ll return.
I thought for all these years that I was the only person that saw that. I remember it well as I was watching from the Kop. It was the front of the old John Street roof. It got hit by the ball and a huge section fell into the standing area below luckily missing everyone from what I remember. Nothing was ever made of it but I remember it well.

That incident also affected me but I didn’t let it put me off .

The thing that did it for me was when they put up the price of a cow heel and a schooner of sherry to 3 and a half pence . I dread to think how much they charge for it now .

As someone, not a Blade nor a Sheffielder, even, though a Yorkshireman, said to me, many years ago,1962 to be exact, if you buy a season ticket your a supporter, pay at the gate and go when ever life allows your a fan.
So, my take is, see your bank manager, get a fucking credit card, whatever one of those are, sounds interesting must look into it, get th'i pie and pint, enjoy and forget the Alfred Hitchcock's around you, got to admit there have been some horror shows, last five minutes Friday for example. stay supporting, don't slip into Fandom.
I've heard it can, in rare cases lead to W*d^e!d&yitus, a condition that affects the brain and robs one of ALL rational thought, not nice . Oh yes, and one tends to become uglier&uglier, you must have noticed surely.

'Ampt we got twenty minutes after button push so at least we'll get the trophy in our hands...................."Always look on the brigh............................................................

I went on the South Stand for the first time for ages v Blackburn and was surprised to find that I couldn't pay cash for half time refreshments. Presuming it is the same everywhere in the ground now. I suppose the policy might speed up the queues a little but places going 'cash free' is a worrying trend for me in principle. Pay by cash and you can keep your privacy, pay by card and there will always be a record of your location. Not a dealbreaker for me (it was same in the Triple Point) but I'd prefer they retained an option to pay by cash at a couple of the outlets.

Unfortunately for you, there is also CCTV and Ring Door Bells which can record where you're off to. You may own a Smartphone with location services turned on, that'll track you. If you drive, you're car registration will be checked against ANPR cameras. Bus or tram..? smile you're on CCTV. A Taxi may have a recording device installed, too. I assume you've got a customer number (unless you use someone else's, when you scan to go through the turnstile, you're tracked. Yet you're worried about buying a pint and a sausage roll on your card at half time..?

Shhhh, but watched a programme last night with Jane McDonald in Bridlington. She was in Tophams and noticed the sign Knickerbocker Glory £5.45. Mi mam always had one there when I was a kid , half a crown. P.S Us kids had Hot Orange drinks. Don’t know what Half a crown was worth back in 1960. Also no fruit int bottom of the glass😦

Just go the match wearing this and they'll never track you down:

My first game was 1962 and hardly ever missed a game for many years (dispite the earache from the wife ) I had to stop a few years ago due to ill health and God do I miss it 😑😳😳
