My first games were mid 80s, but I have only the haziest of memories of them. I recall a 2-3 loss to Grimsby (my 1st ever match), Peter Withe scoring afer about 15 seconds v Barnsley (and Burridge saving a penalty?), John Fashanu beating us single handed for Millwall, my 1st away match v Barnsley, I think we were winning but lost 1-2, and I think Burridge saved another penalty.

Does the club have an archive of old matches that can be accessed? I'd love to out some flesh on the bones of my childhod memories!

I found a few on Youtube from the 70's,some other clubs fans have matches on there against Blades.
I have seen Blades 1 Man Utd 4 - 75/76 season etc.

Have you tried any of the big chain store betamax video libraries

There was one next door to the 8 track cassette shop

the games:

29//9/84 H Grimsby L2-3 (Philliskirk. Morris pen)
19/10/85 H Barnsley W3-1 (Withe, Edwards 2)
5/10/85 H Millwall L1-3 (Eckhardt)
8/4/86 A Barnsley L1-2 (Arnott)

The club used to bring out videos of each home game from 84-85 (I think). It may be that someone has got one hidden away somewhere for some of those games...

I think we started the season after. Ive got videos of us beating L**ds 3-2, Brighton, and Fulham, all at home from that season. I remember being told that the first game we filmed was the game after Steve Wigley scored some wonder goal, which sounds about right.

I can check via my extensive programme collection, but you may be right.

It's interesting to reflect back that in those days it was amazing and a big deal to get footage of an entire United game, hence why the club sold a video of each game. Nowadays no-one pay tuppence to see the entirety of a 1-1 draw with Colchester.

I have vidoes of the 3-1 win over Stoke in 86-7 and the 5-4 against Brighton in 89-90. As I recall there is no commentary.

Some of those old club videos have commentary, some don't. Those that do have it provided by a guy called Derrell Bentley who was interviewed on the Life With the Blades video (the one that opened with Dave Kilner in Reg Brealey's bed) where he looked like a Chuckle Brother in Ron Atkinson's coat.

I've got us beating Huddersfield 5-1 and us losing to Norwich in the Cup. I also have us beating Chester City 6-1.

I have a few which Silent Blade lent me to copy onto DVD which I promise I will do one day. Tony Currie's Testimonial and a 3-0 win over Newcastle are included.

I have tons of matches taped off the tele including us coming from 2-0 down to beat West Ham 3-2 in 1994.

Random memory of the Chester game. We were 3-0 up at half time through a Deane hat trick. Chester got one back early in the 2nd half through a scrappy goal from a corner from a chap called Lightfoot. With memoriies of how we had thrown away a 3 goal lead in 5 mins v Reading 2 years before, I was worried we were about to do it again...
