My Dad - A True Blade

I'm sorry to hear this, fella. I met your Dad a few times. He was right though, you are a family of idiots :-)

I remember spoofing a posting on SUISA made to look like it was from him (this is getting on for 20 years ago). I signed it "Pater" and you were unsure for a while whether it was actually him as (unbeknownst to me) you did actually sometimes call him Pater.

Take care.

So so true and so perceptive.

Purely based on my experience with Ms Crab mate.

Of course, you do your best to be strong, and most of the time you make it. But loss makes you vulnerable, you get tired and the simplest task feels like the hardest. Even now, although I get hungry, I never know what I want to eat, and if I go out, the empty chair beside me is a reminder of what has gone. So yes, be as strong as you can, but also accept that sometimes you just need to take a knee, you just need to let the tears come.

And whilst people who have been through it, me and many others on here, stand ready to offer anything you need, it is important to know that grief is also a very individual experience. No two snowflakes are quite the same, I would say Grief can be described the same. Some people have stood in judgement of the way I've handled my grief, and the way I continue to handle it. But I make no apologies, I love her, I miss her, thats the way it is. She was the best thing thats ever happened to me, and now she is gone. At some point, I have to make my peace with that.

Words are well meant, comforting, useful. But speaking for myself, sometimes just knowing someone is there, when all the words you need to hear are "I know" or "I get it" is the most important thing.

So I, and others on here............we know..................we get it..............we're here when needed.

How sad - it's also very sad, and it brings a tear to the eye, when the big screen puts up the Blades we have lost during the season before the last game.

Perhaps greenwich you may want to consider the same - probably one of the last things you can do for him.

All the best fella.

It's eight years now since my dad passed away, but your 'family of idiots' comment also brought back memories of him.
He was dong some DIY work and had me helping him to saw a plank of wood. I was tasked with holding up the free end, which splintered as he cut through the end of the wood.
He told me ' You're an idiot ,,, in fact you're worse than an idiot ,... even a fucking idiot can hold a piece of wood.'

So sincere condolences from one idiot to another.

It is with a heavy heart I have to announce that the man responsible for making me support United, my dad, has finally lost his battle and died peacefully at 10 o'clock this morning. You'll be glad to know that as he lay on his bed having gasped his last, I laid my Blades scarf across his chest, and not for the first time, a red and white scarf had to dry my tears. He might have had "a family of idiots!" (the London Blades' favourite quote of his when I told the tale of how he had to come and pick me up from near Peterborough on the A1 very early on Christmas Morning in 1989) but he did a pretty good job of making me the person I am, for good or for bad, and I am so proud that he is my dad. He also managed to touch the lives of everyone he came into contact with, as those who listened to his wry observations at Bramall Lane will testify. I am already missing the phone calls after we've lost which missed out all pleasantries and introductions and got straight to the point - "Were they rubbish?" View attachment 48526

Sorry to hear that fella.

Just read this Adrian.

Really sad to hear the news, I know it's not been great for a while, but it still must be devastating

Your Dad was a true Blade and a true Gentleman and I was glad to have met him.

Thinking of you and your family mate.

Very sorry to hear about your Dad Greenwich
It sounds like you have lots of very fond memories of your Dad, this is what will hurt you the most in the coming weeks and months, but over time they will also be the things that bring the most laughs and smiles to you and your family and friends

Oh, mate. So sorry to hear this news.
Mrs Ken and I sending you our best.
Rejoice in his memory and be thankful his passion for the Blades was something you shared.
