Deepest Condolences mate. My old fella always used sit to my right hand side, because he was deaf in his right ear. He died 5 years ago but I still automatically turn to my right to wait for his very biased opinion of what just happened on the pitch.

Condolences to you and your family mate, nice eulogy.

I'm sure he was as proud of you as you obviously were of him.

Seems to show the age demographic of the forum that so many of us are losing our parents at the moment, life is never quite the same again.

Condolences Greenwich to you and your family, he will be sat at the blades bar with the the others..RIP Greenwich Senior, lovely photo.

It is with a heavy heart I have to announce that the man responsible for making me support United, my dad, has finally lost his battle and died peacefully at 10 o'clock this morning. You'll be glad to know that as he lay on his bed having gasped his last, I laid my Blades scarf across his chest, and not for the first time, a red and white scarf had to dry my tears. He might have had "a family of idiots!" (the London Blades' favourite quote of his when I told the tale of how he had to come and pick me up from near Peterborough on the A1 very early on Christmas Morning in 1989) but he did a pretty good job of making me the person I am, for good or for bad, and I am so proud that he is my dad. He also managed to touch the lives of everyone he came into contact with, as those who listened to his wry observations at Bramall Lane will testify. I am already missing the phone calls after we've lost which missed out all pleasantries and introductions and got straight to the point - "Were they rubbish?" View attachment 48526

Don't know you mate but I lost my dad a few years ago and so I know exactly how you feel ….. :(
The lump in my throat reading your post is the size of a grapefruit ……
RIP fellow Blade

Ah Norwich, planned destination on one of Greenwich’s less successful low cost Blades watching trips. his story not mine, but I imagine his late Dad would have been less than impressed and the post match phone call would have been short:-

“Were they rubbish?”
“Er, I haven’t got there yet”

:-)

I know my dad will eventually leave us, as my mum did a few years back, and I'm sure as I can be that although it will wrench my heart and hurt like hell, there will be a small voice telling me (all being well) it's the natural order of things, and his kids outlived him, as should be the way. I know for a fact however that the 1st Blades match without him, knowing the phone won't be ringing, knowing we'll never celebrate a win or dissect a defeat again will leave me a gibbering wreck.

You have my heartfelt condolences pal. If I could give any advice, it would be not to listen to any advice. Ignore the 'stay strongs' and 'I know how you feels' now matter how well intended they are. There's nothing more personal than grief, you'll find your own way. Peace x

You are so right. There are times when staying strong makes you so weary, and times when nobody can know how you feel.

But in the times when you need to lean on someone, we will be here waiting.

Deepest sympathies, Greenwich. Pretty sure that, with all your exploits you drove him mad at times. But I am also sure he was immensely proud of you given what you've achieved. Take care and hopefully see you again soon.

Sincere condolences my friend, its such a sad time for you, but its the price we ultimately pay for love. Remember all those good times and things that made him such a special man to you and I'm sure it will give you the strength you need to get through the sorrow and heartbreak.
