It is with a heavy heart I have to announce that the man responsible for making me support United, my dad, has finally lost his battle and died peacefully at 10 o'clock this morning. You'll be glad to know that as he lay on his bed having gasped his last, I laid my Blades scarf across his chest, and not for the first time, a red and white scarf had to dry my tears. He might have had "a family of idiots!" (the London Blades' favourite quote of his when I told the tale of how he had to come and pick me up from near Peterborough on the A1 very early on Christmas Morning in 1989) but he did a pretty good job of making me the person I am, for good or for bad, and I am so proud that he is my dad. He also managed to touch the lives of everyone he came into contact with, as those who listened to his wry observations at Bramall Lane will testify. I am already missing the phone calls after we've lost which missed out all pleasantries and introductions and got straight to the point - "Were they rubbish?" Dadxxx.jpg

A fine and fitting eulogy. My commiserations and best wishes at this time Greenwich Blade

I don't know you or your dad, but thanks for being brave enough to post this message, he sounds like a lovely man, remember the good times, of which I am sure there were many. I will probably be in the same position as you very soon as my dad is terminally ill, & I hope I can be as dignified as you. My deepest condolence to you & your family.

Sorry for your loss GB, a touching note, you're not alone.

Best wishes

Lovely post that mate. From the heart. You’ve already found wonderful memories that will strengthen you and be a permanent source of inspiration for you as you look back on your lives together.

Sometimes I think football is a bit futile and don’t know why I ever got caught up in it. Then I read stuff like this and think...that’s why!

Sorry to hear that he didn't feature heavily in your book but you could tell how much you felt for him then. It's always sad to hear of another person who has touched your life in some way losing their loved ones. RIP Blade.

So sad, I went thought the same in November and tbh am still going though it now. Take all help that your friends and family can provide, it’s going to be tough but try to remember the good times.

RIP and UTB

Sorry to hear that,Greenwich. Every single Blade contributes towards what makes us ‘us’ and it sounds like like he’s done more than his share.

Take care.
