Clough admitted he want's 3 or 4 quality players to help us next-season; on the evidence of today, make that 6 or 7. First half was as bad anything I have seen this season. Slow, ponderous, totally lacking any cutting edge; only changed once Clough brought off Porter and McGinn. Then it took a defensive error to let in Murphy; from his goal, we raised the tempo and started looked threatening. Playing Murphy in a centre forward role proved to be turning point; always on the move and comfortable with balls played to his fees, uses his quick feet and pace over 2 yards to turn defenders. He finds space in the channels, becomes a good target and able to use his pace to free himself of defenders. Baxter has quick feet, but is slow rarely runs the channels, seems to look disinterested. Porter is an absolute joke, surely, surely destined for Goole Town (Bs), easily the worst player for Utd in recent history.

I'd play Murphy down the middle against Hull, put the busy Davies on the left and pray Utd don't play like they did in the 1st half today.

Clough said after the game he likes putting Murphy up front when defenders are a bit tired as you wouldnt want to come up against him when your shattered. I don't think it would work if he was up there from minute one

Are you also suggesting either Baxter being dropped or moving him out wide? Because I don't think either are a good idea. How about just using the same tactic Clough has done for the past few games by switching them later in the game, it proved worth while in the quarter final.

Even with a recognised forward e.g. Porter (and I use the term loosely) up front we never appear to have a man in the middle for attacks. They're either working in midfield or out on the wings.

The reason we looked so bad today in the first half is because everytime someone tried to get the ball to porter he either didnt get on the end of it or he mis controlled it ,absolutely diabolical he was
When you play one upfront like we do you have to be able to hold the ball up, he wouldnt even be able to hold the board up on which he is normally substituted

I think the reason we looked so poor today is that we couldn't be arsed because we're saving ourselves for the semi final.

Morning Sitwell, presumably you enjoyed it y/day and confident we have what it takes to trouble the 0 column on goals scored?

Hang on, we have gone from 2nd bottom to one of the form teams in the division and your telling us we now need 6-7 new players? I know we can be fickle as fans but this is taking the piss. Then we should start experimenting with different players in different positions in a cup semi?

I'm just glad Clough is manager.

That, or we were playing a decent team that are proven to be better than ours is

I would tend to agree with that assesment dip purely because of the league position, but having been to the match i dont think they are a better side, we could and propably should have won it in the second half imo.
All comes down to that striker situation which cloughy will sort out,we should have beaten swindon and now orient,we beat pboro and mk dons got a draw against preston although it was a bit lucky,so in my opinion we are allready a playoff side already with cloughy and to say we need 6/7 players is a bit over the top, having said all that if we can get 6/7 players in we could be unstoppable next season.

See you again if we lose the semi?

Mr Clough's remit .
Make sure we don't get relegated . Job done , set us up for next season , job done .
Semi 's of the cup major bonus .
Looking forward , though not too much to next season , think it will be a Charlton season from a few years ago , very difficult to beat , 1-0 up shut up shop to hit them on the break .
Last time I felt this good about our club was after Sir Dave's first full season in charge .

Yes he has been shit. Thank god he didn't score that goal against Fulham or come off the bench against Forest.

Credit where credits due, the goal against Fulham was a good finish, probably the best goal I've seen him score. The penalty required some bottle, but as the team penalty taker, he couldn't really refuse, could he? The fact it went in however was as much due to the keeper going the wrong way, as anything else, because if he'd guessed right, he'd have had a good chance of saving it. As for the third, well my Mother could have put that away.

The unfortunate fact about these goals is that some people have become totally blinkered about every other aspect of his game. He is the most ineffective Sheffield Utd striker I have ever seen in forty four years. He has no touch, no speed, no awareness and zero physical presence or aggression. In my opinion, if we play him against Hulls defence he won't get a sniff and we can't afford to play with ten men.................

There, that should guarantee him a 90th minute winner! :)

I think the game changed when Scougall came on his ability to actually run at defences from midfield is fantastic
I do like the switching of Baxter and Murphy when they are both on the pitch gives defences something to think about.
Why did Wilson not even try Murphy down the middle

been moaning about it for ages.. murphy is not a winger and all that
Disagree ,Murphy is a fantastic winger now he has confidence ,definitely the best since Morris ,he goes past people easier than any player in our league at least. I didn't rate him earlier this season ,but he is our most improved player and first name on the team sheet for me.

he came as a striker. .wilson put him on the wing.. mind you mata was an international centre mid and Moyes put him on the wing so what do i know??

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day. I know he has scored a nine this season, honestly I do.

Do you honestly, truly, comprehensively believe he's good enough to play for us? If he comes off the bench and scores the winner on Sunday, I'll love him forever, truly I will. But as entitled as you are to your opinion, I cannot see how anyone thinks he's good enough to play for us.

He'll be off in the summer and we all know it.

Is expect you are right but he is our player and like it or not had played a part. He isn't what I would want to see starting next season but he has had undeserved pelters from those who apparently all know better. Some who think they play better for the dog and duck! I'll back the bloke until we replace him with someone better. Perhaps others should do the same.

definitely the best since Morris

Wow, that's a claim. Beagrie, Bryson, Devlin, Tonge, Nuddy and Gillespie all did it at a higher level.

If Murphy stays with us and continues to improve he could well be the man though...

Well I agree with all of that.

If he scores, we're on the pitch!

Perhaps he means Lee, not Colin?

Porter gets far too much stick from fans. Yes he isnt the best finisher but he does bring others into the game well but people dont see that side of his game. Blokes walking behind us through St Marys Church ground on Sat were slagging him off big time, never wins a header cant pass to others etc.

FFS get behind him
