I saw him once in the station and was going to tell him that I really appreciate what he does for the fans and that his enthusiasm is fantastic. However, I chickened out haha because I didn't think he'd want to be bothered and may have been in a hurry (same thing happened when I saw Adkins shopping). I really like how open he is and how good he is with the fans. He's also really taken to the club which is great.
There are a lot of dreadful chairman in this country and I can safely say that we have by the far the best. I know I panicked at the Murphy but it's evident now that they took the most sensible option of it all.
Hopefully he sees this though.

A mates just txt me asking if I knew ya(high greeners all assume we know each other) where was the party and Jim really turn up?

I can confirm he actually did turn up yes, as it was my party! It was in Chapeltown though, not High Green.

In addition to that, I have also met Jim a few times and is a top, top bloke. Very genuine, and very humble.

More recently, he met a mate of mine in the Copthorne on Saturday morning in a pre-arranged meeting to discuss a new supporters branch, was open and enthusiastic as always and even paid for breakfast! Cleared up the whole Murphy transfer stuff too. Trustworthy and has the club at heart in everything he does.

Wish we had ten more like him running our club!

That is fantastic mate! You don't have to sell him to me though, I'm a big fan. Is the new supporters club from chap too?

I am well into the comfy chairs in God's waiting room;( If there is one,) if not I am warm and comfortable Not that you will give a fuck, but for the first and only time in supporting the Blades, there is, in Jim, a direct connection to the club. Jim Thank you. I did once meet a previous chairman but he charged me an arm and a leg, to fix a leg
No doubt Blades of a certain age will know to whom I refer . "Are we signing X Mr X?""
"Now , how is that leg? "
"No more questions Mr Surgeon" No information either apart from a bill that looked like a telephone number.

Seems to me like a great bloke, and as others gave said; were lucky to have him, as how many other chairman are so open and approachable?

I dare say none are like our Jim

If Jim Phipps or Mr McCabe are at the game you will always find them in the copthorne hotel about an hour after the game. Both men make a big effort to mingle and chat openly with fans. As much stick these two get from our fans they never shy away or refuse to talk to fans. Both where in there after the Chezzie chinos game chatting and having pictures taken, no doubt if they are in attendance at Blackpool game you can find them in there UTB

a very good read, thanks for the info..
cant recall a time in my lifetime when,
manager and board were spoken as well of at the same time,
maybe our jim will see this, think hed be pleased on whole,
tho' I guess he knows not to take owt too seriously...

I'm not a high greener I'm afraid, mate just had a party there, I wanna say the pub was called the station but we had 8 pints at the game then topped up at the party. Jim was defintley there. Said he was stopping in a hotel that night and was only going to be on his own watching tv, so got a taxi to the dephs of high green

Still a cool story mate! Jim seems a really really top bloke, I always stick up for him if I need to.

My first impression of jim was last last season when he walked the length of john street talking to every one who stopped him, handshakes, smiles, and he doesn't duck the tough questions, last saturday he treated a load of lads to an executive package, one of em is an old pal of mine and couldn't believe his luck, and had one of the best days of his life....

That's jim phipps, as I see him anyway, and the more we read about him and how he goes about things, the more I like him..

I've never met him but my brother was at a family do at the lane and Jim said hello.
He sat down and had a drink with them. They reckon he's an absolute gentleman and a real nice guy.
They had their photos took with him.
I've got a lot of time for Jim and Kevin, they have took a lot of shite at times, but they never lose their bottle's.
That's a trait of a good blade, plenty of bottle. :)

In my opinion the issue that gave us an initial distrust of Jim was that he's an American.
We all expect him to talk a good game and express his feeling and understanding of the club.

However can an American REALLY understand and appreciate how important our club is to us.
I often think that Amercians have a faux passion towards a sport, it's all about showing off and letting others know they are a number 1 fan. However I doubt it has the same effect on lives that it does in England, Italy, Turkey etc.

Due to social media and meeting fans Jim will have seen with his own eyes exactly what SUFC means to some of us and I expect that he's developed an empathy with our fans and now has an emotional attachment to the club.

I agree with the others...... I really appreciate what he's done.
He must have received some right flack when things haven't gone well but he's still there to face the music.

That's Jim down to the ground. What a guy?
Can he be nominated for a knighthood?

I don't real think there's anything faux about the Americans love of sports. Think they can be just as passionate as we can. If you ignore the foam hands and stuff

The Seattle sounders fans are supposed to be very passionate in mls. And there was a story about fans at an nfl game causing a earthquake with he noise levels not long ago.

Think given the franchises it might be harder for them to envision the passion for an individual team tho?

Overall, I think jim seems like a top guy. Doesn't hide and tries to keep fans informed.

We had a friends Birthday party up Chapeltown, I drunkenly told him of the party and where it was being held before a match in the International Bar. He turned up in a Taxi about 10 at night. Since that night he's been very high up in my estimations.

I once got bitten by a poisonous snake on my cock, and Jim Phipps stepped up and sucked the poison right out.

He'll do owt for a fellow blade will our Phipps.

True story except it wasn't Jim, there was no snake bite and it happens every Saturday night!!!

Did he really fall for the old "poisonous snake" ploy????

I think he's spent enough time with Selahattin Baki to have got a grasp of the passion and feeling for football here (and Turkey). ;)

Sadly, due to contractual reasons I'm not allowed to talk or sing when I'm not in concert or recording, as I might damage my vocal chords. I get by with a lot of signalling and pointing.

There was a lot of angry gesticulating last year.

O come on Charles, none of this contractual bollocks, it's for the Blades!
