Everton are understood to be considering a summer swoop for defender Kyle Naughton at Championship side Sheffield United, according to reports.

The Blades fullback is highly rated in the Championship, but is tipped to leave Bramall Lane in the summer, should United fail to win promotion to the Premier League this campaign.

20-year-old Naughton has been linked with Premiership sides Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle in the past, with it claimed that Toffees manager David Moyes is keen to add the young defender to his squad at Goodison Park.

Naughton can play as either a full-back or a winger and, at around £4million, Moyes sees the England Under-21 International as good value due to his versatility. But unfortunately the Scotsman hasn't got as much money at his disposal for new players as some of his managerial counterparts in the Premier League.

Out of contract at Bramall Lane next summer, manager Kevin Blackwell will not want to lose Naughton, who is a product of the Blades youth-system.

However, failure to win promotion to the Premiership could see United powerless to prevent the defender from leaving the Yorkshire club for Merseyside, with the prospect of playing in next years Europa Cup, which Everton are already guaranteed a place in, sure to be a factor in Moyes landing his man.

Forget £4m. If the likes of Walcott and Bale can go for ridiculous sums, so can young Mr Naughton.

IF he goes anywhere, that is.

Thats what???? :D :D

If United don't need to sell him (like I belivethey thought they needed to sell Beattie to get his wages off the books) then we should hold out until the price offered becomes so crazy that even we as supporters would say take it, we can buy x, y & z with that money.
