There was only one team playing football tonight and it wernt us.Got out of jail big time with that performance.
It shows why so many premiership teams get knocked out in the early rounds ,the shadow squads are not match fit and get turned over with teams who want it more.Blackburn played well tonight ! If the pen had been scored I don't think we would have got through.

To be a Grass, that "cheeky 12 year old" has captained United's Under 18 Academy side many times & is now a regular in the Under 23 side. I saw him play against QPR U23s only yesterday. He should know better.....

i never get the time wasting issue because its a double edged sword. its fantastic when your winning but infuriating when your losing everyone does it. mowbray for all his talk about values will guaranteed do this in a tight game this season

Remember Kirkland in the League Cup Semi-Final Second Leg at Anfield? He pushed, prodded and generally manhandled the ref until he'd persuaded him that his red card offence of handling outside the area - and pulling the Chief down into the bargain - was only worth a yellow. The twat. Wish we'd had tonight's ref that night. But yes, tonight's ref was utter wank - someone needed to nick the pea from his whistle.

He didn't give it back slowly, he stopped the Blackburn player getting the ball to take the throw by turning around with it. There's a difference.

Under the circumstances I don't see too much wrong with him being told to "do his job".

As for lecturing the ball boy on "values" - I wouldn't have wasted my breath on him tbh. If the lad thinks it's o.k. to obstruct an opposing player retrieving the ball then he shouldn't be a ball boy - simple as that. And the club should relieve him of his ball boy duties. And before we get a chorus of, "everybody does it", my response to that is, "they shouldn't - and the clubs should stop it happening". And the reason why they should stop it happening is because it's unsporting and it reduces the time that us, the supporters, who have paid to see 90 minutes of football, get to see the ball in play.

If you'd find it infuriating if it happened to us when we were chasing the game, then it cannot also be funny when it's happening in our favour. It's something that we've seen creep into the game in recent years. The ball boys are seemingly not content to have free admission to the game and be up close amongst the action, they want to steal a piece of it as well. Sorry. It's a real privilege to represent your club, at whatever level, but there are conditions on it. And one of those is to remember at all times that you are representing a football club in a game of "sport". So behave in a "sporting" fashion maybe?

That lad who threw the ball over the ad boards v Palace was the same, current SUFC U23 regular, previous U18 Captain who upset Tony Mowbray last night. This season, all ball boy duties have been done by older, fully grown, Shirecliffe Academy players.

On Monday I saw that same "ball boy" chase a referee across the pitch, while playing for an SUFC XI - demanding to know why the ref was "chatting shit" to him. Thus demonstrating his own sore loser tendency.
Look it's fair to say I am very disappointed in a United Academy player behaving as he did.
We used to teach Academy players discipline & values.

You’re 2-1 down in a cup game that you should be winning and a ball boy is blocking your player getting the ball back, personally I would give him a right mouthful. He knew what he was doing and knew that he would get a mouthful. If he didn’t like it then he should have given the ball back and do his job. No sympathy from me and sorry for TM. I'm a big fan of his as a player. He's turning into more of an athlete, and developing more of a toolbox of skills. When I first saw him in the SuperCup in the wilds of Northern Ireland, I was very unsure, maybe he was 15 then. Anyway, he's kicked on. I've Blogged about him many times. But, he can cut all this strutting & swearing stuff out for me any time he fancies it. He can remain nameless (from me) in the hope he calms it all down.

I saw the lad. There were two Blackburn players wanting the ball - he gave it to the furthest away! Mowbray, committing the offence of leaving his technical area gave him a bollocking and then realised what a twat he was and went back to apologise. The ref seemed to think he was giving the lad another bollocking. He and Wilder put their arms around each other by way of reconciliation. Then the ref got involved. I think Mowbray was pointing out to the ref that it had been settled amicably. Wilder was agreeing with him.

Not surprised by this. The lad looked very cocky and pleased with himself last night. Sorry I know it upsets some to be critical of your own but being a very close quarters last night I will back Mowbray.

Those saying he was out of order would have no problem whatsoever with Wilder giving him a far worse bollocking.

Give it back slowly, or just leave it, but stopping the player from getting it crossed the line. I'm not suggesting hanging the lad but a stern word from Mowbray was justified imho.
