Ozzy is our best option to do that role right now. Could Mcgoldrick, burke, Brewster, or Mousset play there? Possibly but I don't see any of them pressing like he can.
As for Mousset if he can get anywhere near the player we know he can be he's a threat at this level. We don't need 90 minutes from him with the options we have. I hope he pushes on from this as I think the style of play would suit him well. Sharp gets plenty of space in the channels but doesn't have the pace and power of Lys to fully punish sides.
I'm not convinced that the Ozzy role works every game. I think it was good in the first half on saturday, but like in many games, he ends up being a bit lost when teams decide to cut him out. Second half when we changed things around, Billy was getting over to the left a lot more and it meant that the Ozzy role was defunct. What that did was create a huge hole in the middle, which Mousse was able to fill.
I think because Ozzy runs around a lot, then he's seen as an energetic player that needs to be played, but i think that we can either swap him out for another central midfielder like Hourihane (or Berge if/ when he's fit), put didsy in front of Fleck/ Norwood or we do what we did on Saturday and bring in another central striker whilst Billy goes hunting for the ball down the wings, to turn provider - A role that he played a little more under Wilder in the first Championship season.
Where has all this "over eating" come from? Has anybody within the club said he has a diet problem? Has anybody ever seen him eating a KFC or a McDonald's?
Some people are naturally heavier in the way they're built. I'm more concerned about him pulling his hamstring when he runs as that is clearly a problem of his and has nothing to do with what he eats.
It's been widely accepted by those close to the club that Mousse and McBurnie were both struggling with their attitudes off the pitch. They were both living a bit more of a party life than was required of them and i think Wilder had also made reference to Mousse and his Macdonalds issues in the past.
Mousse had issues with injuries, but he was also having really big issues with diet as well. That in itself isn't an issue if he's hitting the numbers in training. I don't have an issue with Mousse carrying a few Kg's as we've seen in games like against Man U that the weight can give the impression of strength...
However, as you allude to, his hamstrings are a result of poor conditioning and that will always be his downfall if its not addressed, which at the start of the season, it clearly wasn't being addressed.
When you put it all together it just means that he's never going to play consistently unless one or all of those aspects change. And that comes down to the attitude of the player. He only needs to look at his skipper to realise that he can do a lot more.
