Mark bloody ward

He scored against us next season for city too.
Mark Ward was booed every time he touched the ball because he had been quoted in the press as saying "I hope for the sake of football that their way does not succeed."
I'm sure we later tried to sign him under Howard Kendall.

The 4-5 loss to Fulham came to my mind. To score 4 at home (Leon with a Hatrick too) but still be on the losing side is something I’ve never seen or likely to again for a long time.

Wasnt a defeat but I also remember a 4-4 home draw with Birmingham around 1996 (ish) thats the only game that’s ever come close to it. From memory we went 2-0 down led 4-2 and then it ended up 4-4 - absolutely bizzare game! I think it was our 1st game of the season and seem to remember devlin scored for them

It was our first home game of the season, Spackman got pelters for being shit.

Home game v West Ham in Dave Bassett's era, Oct 89. We had umpteen million corners but lost to two counter-attacks
I remember us ha ing 28(?) corners that game, seem to recall there were 22(?) In one half...maybe I dreamt it at the time but I'm sure it was some sort of record for corners in one half. Can anybody verify my memory?!

The 2-3 loss v Oldham in 2012.

Remember thinking 'What could possibly go wrong', at half time, when 2-0 up and breezing to an easy victory.

Everything did, of course, with two sent off and a Shefki Kuqi winner.

It was 28 corners, and 26 of them were in the second half! We absolutely battered them, but lost 2-0. I think it was our first league defeat of the season.

West Ham missed a pen as well if I remember correctly....Julian Dicks blasted it against the bar and it rebounded almost to the halfway line!!

26 in one half surely must be a record, and one that will be hard to beat?

I was only 14 at the time but just remember corner after corner coming in and the centre halfs just heading them out for another corner.

Trying to remember who the West Ham centre backs would have been, I would guess probably Alvin Martin, and God knows...Steve Potts?

Those reds knackered us up for the Walsall game that midweek too. Another 3-2 defeat with some rookie called Egan on an emergency loan coming in wonder whatever happened to him 😅

October 1983. Shrewsbury away. A first leg league cup game.

They were actually in the division above us, but we went a goal up and dominated the game. How we didn't add several more I'll never know. Kevin Arnott was at his best that night and had one cleared off the line. At least I think it got as far as the line - it was at the opposite end of the pitch to where the away supporters were standing, so difficult to say with absolute certainty.

Anyone watching who didn't know which side was which would have had us down as being in the higher division.

But somehow we contrived to lose 2-1. All of us left in complete bafflement.

We drew the home leg 2-2, but didn't play anywhere near as well. Edwards put us a goal up after bouncing the ball with his hand on the edge of their area at the Bramall Lane end. It was such an obvious handball that he looked as though he was playing basketball! Somehow the referee didn't give it and he slotted it home. At first there was hardly a sound from the crowd as we all thought it would be ruled out. When we realised the goal would stand there was a bit of a half hearted embarrassed cheer.

Taylor 2
Walker 2 for us. ⚽⚽⚽⚽

1-2 Swindon in the playoffs under Clough. Just the same old conceding from a corner and a goalkeeper howler that lost it for us. Absolutely mullered them for the most part.

I would’ve been about the same age. I can only remember Stuart Bloody Slater. He seemed to really irritate us in that game!
