Cannot wait to watch those gilt edge chances going begging. Only joking...we lack so much without him in the team.

Mike Bassett's 3-5-1-1 Christmas Pudding (with Tonka in the middle as the sixpence) is not far off what we play now. 3 central defenders, 2 wingbacks and 3 central to make the 5 in midfield and McGoldrick withdrawn behind the striker.

As for the idea that as a striker McGoldrick is paid to score goals - no. He, like everyone else, is paid to help the team win.

He's 31, and his game doesn't really rely on pace. He's probably got another couple of years in him if he's professional and remains fortunate with injuries, in which time we can consolidate and find an eventual heir to the throne.
