Who is the most hated opposition player after causing serious injury to our player?

Personally I'd say Ainsworth purely because Dane was literally one of our own and had been with us for so long.

Other suggestions welcome!

Andy Johnson? The bald striker?

My vote goes for whoever gave Beattie the flu

No, the Forrest midfielder who did Santos's cheek with his elbow. I take it you weren't there at 'payback time'?

1.40 in and he definitely gets the ball.

All before my time apart from the recent one.
Although through peer pressure iv always naturally dislikes Ainsworth

There is only one answer for this. It's a bit of a pointless survey really but I've voted anyway just to emphasise the dislike for Ainsworth.

Just Googled it, I remember my dad telling me about it but I never actually saw the tackle....

"His commitment levels took him via Lincoln City to Port Vale where he was embroiled in controversy during a match against Sheffield United on Nov 22, 1997, at Vale Park. Early in the match, an Ainsworth tackle on Dane Whitehouse resulted in the end of the midfielder’s career. “I’ve never really spoken publicly about it,’’ said Ainsworth, recalling that some Sheffield United supporters came looking for him on the bus when Vale visited Bramall Lane the following March. “A few of my team-mates told me there were a few people saying ‘where’s Ainsworth?’ Which is not nice. I wasn’t on the bus. I’d gone home with my parents. It’s not nice thinking that people think I meant it.

“Thinking that I ended someone’s career is not nice but I can look in the mirror and say I know I didn’t meant ever to injure anyone. I never have in my career. Ever. It’s not my style. I was going for the ball. I went in full-blooded, and it was a tough tackle. With modern medicine today, we wouldn’t be talking about a career-ending tackle. It was unfortunate.

“I sent him a letter when I knew it was a serious injury. There was no reply. Obviously, I do feel bad it was me in the tackle. But you never mean to end anyone’s career. If I could say (wish) the tackle never happened that would be great, but I’d never pull out of a tackle. I haven’t done in my career.

“I remember going back there and getting dog’s abuse, but it’s the pantomime of football as well. I remember going in tough on Alan Kelly, who was their keeper at the time, and I’d played with him at Preston, and I caught him. I said to him: ‘Please get up because if you stay down I’m not going to get out of here alive.’ It’s always an intimidating place to go."

Rodney marsh breaking Tom McAllisters leg.
Terry Curran stamping on Tony Kenworthys damaged foot.
Iain Hume headbutting Chris Morgans elbow.
Shouldn't laugh but that Hume comment did make me chuckle :)

I saw the tackle. It was horrendous. He might not have gone out to end someone's career but he definitely went out to hurt someone.
Brian Deane ran over to get involved. I never saw Deano get that wound up. It was bad.
I wouldn't piss on Ainsworth if he was on fire.

I'd gladly set him fire.

I never liked Marlon Harewood for some reason. The season after the triple assault season we played them at the City Ground he scored in front of us and ran behind the goal (I think). Someone threw their programme towards him (miles off hitting him). Think David Johnson also went off injured in that match too.

The Pig who elbowed Cresswell at the Sty. RC followed him around the pitch talking to him and scared him to death. Johnson?

Purse.

Ainsworth.

Sordell wasn't out to injure Coutts.
That's true, but I decided I'd vote on the one who has cost us recently. Its almost a given with Ainsworth for ever, but deliberate or not (I'm don't think it was) he has cost us big this season.

Every time I see him, it reminds me of the preseason on another message board where as ever we were getting excited about players we'd never heard of before we signed them. Somebody cut and pasted a message with a list of our players and one name inadvertently ended up at the bottom of the message. The next person answered the first and he too added the name at the end almost as an explanation of excitement, it took off before the original poster explained what had happened. Anyway...

Santos!

Depends on which side of the fence you're on doesn't it? I've seen Whitehurst, Brown & Jones go in where the welfare of the opposing player was the last thing on their mind. Take the eye patch off lads!

2 things that came out of that game for me
1) In all my years of watching them, that's the first time I'd been embarrassed at being a Blade.
2) Megson is a cunt

I wasn't embarrassed at all.

- Tracy did what he did countless times and got sent off.
- Santos snapped Johnson, which was fully deserved and always going to happen.
- Everyone waded in and Suffo had Santos's back. Team unity.
- One of our players got injured.

What was embarrassing?

Santos tackle was disgraceful and not something I want to see a Blades player doing. We're all quick to jump all over any opposition players doing it to ours. Yes Johnson was a cunt for what he did to Santos. Chin him in the fucking tunnel then.

Suffo had Santos back? What by head-butting an opposition player? It's a game of football not a nightclub brawl
