Also, its easy to overlook centrebacks because they have to be consistent, or you lose. Chris Morgan and Sean Murphy deserve mentioning, though.

That was the whole issue of with Collins. He had a few decent games, but you couldn't rely on him.

Consistency?

Rock solid?

I’ll agree Shaun Murphy, and that song in the pub in Cardiff, unbelievable scenes.

I’ll go Geary as well. Legend and despite his leg practically falling off he still turned out and gave everything.

I’d Go Dane Whitehouse. Throughout different eras, his attitude and effort was unbelievable.

Stab the Man. We relied upon him to sort out our defence for a long period of time or until old father time caught up with him and Basset binned him early in the 90 - 91 season.

But throughout most of the 80s he was the glue that tried to keep an admittedly not great Utd defence together. You only had to see what happened when he wasn't there. Chessie at home Easter 89, Utd about to go up and Chessie down, Stan is sent off and Utd contrive to lose 3-1 at the Lane.

Reading at home mid 80s. Utd 3 nil up and coasting. Stan forced off injured. Cue scenes of panic by Utd as Trevor Senior a 6 ft 5 inch bean pole has a field day against our unorganised rabble and we quickly concede 3. Burridge pulls off a worldy in the last minute to prevent us from losing. Thing is, when Stan went off, I turned and said to the old man 'shit, thats a game changer...I can see the shit hitting the fan now' (and we were 3 nil up at the time).

Stan was Mr consistent. Not a world beater and he had limitations of course, but at the level we were playing at at the time, and considering some of the shite he had to play with and organise, he was a consistent 8 out of 10 man for nigh on a decade.

Stan the Man get the vote for Utd Mr Consistent from me.

Glenn Cockerill.

Wonderful player to watch. Never saw him have a bad game, even though he was in a pretty shit SUFC team at the time.

100% effort every time and a class above everyone else on the pitch.

Wish he was in our present squad of players, where he would have a platform to really shine.

Jagielka played about 150 games consecutively for us, was very consistent.

Morgan
Brown
Kozluk
Geary
Wayne Allison
Mark Duffy hasn't had a poor game for us in a very long time
Paddy Kenny

Speed was excellent but it was only one season.

Micheal Brown for me. Always gave 100% too

Good player and tried hard, but can’t be considered consistent by virtue of the fact that he scored 20 goals in one season, whereas every over season he would get 2 or 3. Consistently booked perhaps...

When he was on loan for a very short time Des Hamilton never put a foot wrong. Also Scott Marshall but more recently I have to agree with Jake Wright.

Disagree. He did nothing. Was a rock solid 6/10 every game at best, if that.

He had a poor start to his time with us, and didn’t immediately improve when Blackwell arrived. But he’d been decent the following season, very reliable, and was probably playing his best stuff when he picked up the injury that ultimately ended his playing career. But the initial poor start for me removes him from the consistency debate, same reason Shaun Murphy probably can’t be in there as he was appalling till Warnock transformed him.

Alan Kelly or Derek Geary for me.
