Just been looking at our last 3 goals

BBD goal vs QPR
1) Hamer wins possession back
2) Souza crosses ball
GOAL

Campbell goal vs QPR
1) Anel clearance
2) Campbell flicks header on
3) BBD passes quickly back to Campbell
GOAL

Campbell goal vs Preston
1) Burrows takes control of loose ball and passes to Hamer
2) Hamer passes back to Burrows
3) Burrows crosses in
GOAL

All these goals had less than 4 on the ball actions before the goal and before opposition had time to reset from losing possession

For majority of Preston game it felt like we wanted everyone in the team to touch the ball before creating a chance.. allowing Preston to reset and get back into shape.

We can dally on the ball looking for the perfect goal. We do need to progress the ball into the box and not allow for the oppo to set their defensive positions with 20 passes (all of the time).

I do agree though, we often try to score the perfect goal.
My old man used to call it 'walking it in'
Unfortunately, that requires Barcelona/Prime Arsenal type of players which we don't have.
Tell you what though, if it does come together and start yielding results....starting next Sunday! I'll be well chuffed :)

It's something that changes every game, sometimes putting a ball in quick leads to a goal and other times holding onto the ball just a bit longer will lead to an opportunity and goal.

As good as a quick attack and goal is, there's no point trying to play a fast pass or cross that isn't on, as it's just needlessly surrendering possession.

Sometimes in holding onto the ball a little longer, leads to a better opportunity for a goal, it doesn't work all the time.

For example, Campbell might pull a defender out of position and create space in the box for O'Hare, or Burrows being doubled up on out wide could lead to Hamer being free in space which could lead to a better chance on goal.

You mean teams are parking the bus and we get more space when we win it back further up the pitch?!

We ought to get Callum O’Hare pressing along with the front line! Someone get CW on the line now! :)

Make Route One Great Again

We tend to score goals when we move the ball quick and/or someone take a chance.

Much of our play is far too conservative and risk-averse. When we win it back we need to take a chance.

Passing it around to get a better angle would be justifiable if we actually created lots of good chances, which we rarely do.

Thought there was some good passing in the first half which pulled Preston all over the place and exposed their defence.

It’s difficult to break through 11 players so sometimes we have to be patient and move their defence around - also we played some good stuff through the middle and at pace

Did ok yesterday
