Monty Knockers

At the open day, we were given a demonstration of Pro-Zone, looking first at Montys stats for a game last season. Can't remember which, but I did memorise one bit. He made 24 passes 75% of which were sucessfully completed. Prozone also told you how many passes were forward or backwards, but I couldn't see those numbers. An afternoon with the data guy looking over this system would be quite enlightening, don't you think? Maybe thats why the club see certain players differently to how they are seen from the stand...

Monty plays with no flair, little imagination, very little skill, no vision and certainly isn't pleasing on the eye, but, I can't help liking the guy for some absurd reason. To me the team just doesn't seem to perform as well without him, even though when he IS there his limitations detract from the team????

Whether this is because his enthusiasm and commitment are 'contagious' or simply that the players around him have to perform that little bit better to make up for his shortfalls, I don't know. What I do know is that he was, just about, an ever-present when we were last promoted, and similarly when we were very narrowly relegated.

and why the player who last time I checked had covered the most ground in the football league was often shouted at for being "lazy" last season :D

PS - Surprisingly, it wasn't Monty.

one mans mis placed pass is the intended receiving players lack of vision:D

There's a lot of truth in that. It drives me nuts when a lazy or half asleep team mate doesn't make the obvious run to receive a pass. Especially when it's my pass. :)

You can't have a passing team without movement. If Blackwell isn't drilling our players to move in a way to support a passing game, then even the best passing players will look crap at times.

Been reading this thread and im surprised but also sick of the amount of people who slag off monty, we all know he has his limits, but SERIOUSLY the lad isnt there to create!

Just amazes me how many people slag him off when he is the hardest working player we have, without him we look terrible cause none of our players brake up the play like he does, we look weak in midfield without him and many more goals are scored against us when he is not in the first 11. Just seem ignorant not to admire the work the lad does for us, his job is simply to disrupt play and brake it up, not to zip balls accross field and create a lovely move, or to rince three players and then rifle a shot into the net

does anyone remember frank lampard interview? After the chelsea blades game when we were in the prem, Lampard said monty was one of the thoughest players he has ever had to play against because he is like a bulldog and just always there trying to tackle, always hastiling like a bulldog

Im sorry but if lamaprd plays in the Champions league and the supposed best divison in the world and says that about playing against monty, it says alot about people who doubt monty..

I didnt know he had a pair of knockers?

Anyway Fiery Blade sums Monty up in one post.

Well said that man. :)

Well I didn't play any misleading, meaningless counting games. I did watch Monty's wretched performance though. The lowlights included a failed 5 yard pass and umpteen hopeless, aimless club-footed lumpits forward to the opposition keeper or the goal-line. I also saw petty free-kicks given away close to our box. He was awful. Elpiton was just as bad. Leon Britton must think he has landed on a different planet!

So the goal we scored, which gave us a point lets not forget.

Cardiff have posession, Monty wins a header giving us posession and then is involved twice with 2 passes to United players leading up to our goal.

Wretched indeed.

As for pointless counting games, I'm glad that personal opinion is not valued higher than fact.

Just out interest, when all the people on here were watching Sheffield United earlier on to eagerly find out if Monty proved them right by misplacing more passes than anyone else in the side, did they also compare his tackling in comparison to the other players in the side?

Yes. It's every second touch.:gallop:

Here all week btw.

Nossy in at centre-half, Ertl into midfield, Monty getting splinters.................job done

I love when people ignore posts that say something positive like this and just continue pumping out the Anti this player/anti that player drivel.
I support any player who plays in the Red and white stripes (or away kit) for us before during and after the game.
Some just don't support, they only criticise.

Oh yeah, as soon as people read my post it will have been verified on TV replays and then swiftly ignored.

I will admit when Monty has a bad game. But it seems people on here are not capable of saying he did well.

Will be happy to watch the tape and check out Monty's contribution. Think it will be Quin who drops if Ertl goes back to midfield - which would be good.

and yet Quinn in the second half today was outstanding .His energy, tackling willingness to get forward was drawing appreciation from the away corner today

I wouldn't have gone as far as outstanding regarding Quinny, but he put plently of effort in as usual and definately tried to drive forward at times.

Is anyone just having a frightening image of Nick Montgomery with breasts when reading the thread title?

He's not been on the Ostrogen again?

Having said that, never mind gay footballers, we could soon have our very own chick with a dick playing for us.

As a woolly Guardian-reading liberal, I for one would welcome our new transsexual midfielder.

I would find it hard to imagine an uglier looking bird though...

Did you have your eyes closed when we were out in Newport saturday night?
