Great goal by Adams but when Match of the day compared it to other long range goals why was Brian Deane's goal against Liverpool when went he beat Bruce Grobbelaar to the ball and lobed it over their defender on the goal line was not mentioned

I was there, pure class he made Grobbelaar look a complete plonker and was even more enjoyable because I was sat right behind it with a Liverpool fan who told me they were going to stuff us.

They ignored us at QPR and now this

Because the BBC hate us. Jagielka got a good one against Middlesbrough in 06 if I remember as well.

looks like calendar news hate us as well, yesterdays (sunday) teatime showed all the local games apart from the blades v dingles

Probably bc these goals happen more often than you think. I did it three times in one season myself :-)
Xabi Alonso did it a couple of times for Liverpool at least.
Also, apparently it's something he tried and fails at quite often, These goals are a lot less spectacular when you see the 9 or 10 other failed attempts. There have even been some own goals from memory. I'm off to Google those.
Anyway here's Deano's effort.

Deano's goal didn't even get any coverage at the time either! He didn't even get goal of the season, Linaker did if memory serves me right. We weren't a particularly liked team due to Bassett's style. Also, ITV had the TV rights for the 1991-1992 season, so the BBC probably don't even have the Deano goal in their archives.

We scored some cracking goals that season - especially in games away at Forest, away at Southampton and home to Man City.

Brian Deane in my Top 5 ever. So under-rated outside Sheffield. Even my Leeds pals didn't know they'd got a skilled centre forward and wondered why he didn't knock everybody about..

Home to Man City, sat in South Stand for the first time. Sat with (who was to become) Mrs HB for the first time at BDTBL. Each of those 4 goals where fantastic. Please, allow me to indulge myself in a bit of nostalgia.

Excellent share WHF.

Reminded me of three things:

1. Brian Deane was brilliant
2. Adidas has made some horror kits
3, Jan Molby was a reight porky f*cker

Got it in one.

No bias, hatred of Bassett/Deane/Warnock or some sinister BBC plot. They didn't/don't have the footage. Plus it's pre-Premier League so doesn't actually exist as football history.

In the same season a few matches after Deano scored that goal we were playing Arsenal at home, Seaman cleared the ball from the edge of the box and it went out to the left wing close to the half way line (United were kicking towards the kop) where Glynn Hodges picked the ball up and did an identical shot to Deano's Seaman had no chance as it floated above his head goalbound only for it to hit the crossbar back into play and I think Bobby Davidson couldn't make full contact with his header and it ending up in row z with an open net in front of him. I remember Hodges turning to Deano and gesticulating with his fingers in his mouth that he was sick that it hadn't gone in

Remember it well, would have been a tremendous goal. I recall Hodges hitting a volley form miles out from that side of the pitch as well that hit the inside of a post which would have been a belter as well. Anyone recall the opponents? I think it was a match we lost in the 2nd tier.
