Missing the Green Un

My dad was driving up city road one Saturday evening with me and my older sister (she was about 12ish at the time)
He pulled up outside the newsagents gave her the money and sent her in for a copy of the Green 'Un.
She got back to the car empty handed, embarrassed and a little upset saying, "He didn't know what I meant daddy"
Turns out she went in and asked for a green one.
"A green what?" asked the newsagent, at which point it all got a tad confusing!!

On another point, what about those away games in the Greater Manchester area where you could pick up a copy of "The Pink" their local equivalent after the game.

Have any local Saturday night sport papers survived?

On the Play store it's called Sheffield Green'Un Football if you're searching for it

Not living in the Steel City any longer I had no idea that the Green 'un was no longer published... sign of the times for print media unfortunately

Likewise, I wasn't aware – though not at all surprised, as you say a sign of the times. My uncle got me a subscription for a year to the Green 'Un – used to be delivered every Tuesday. In the pre-internet days it was a vital source of United news for me – particularly after my parents banned me from calling the Bladesline.

That'was my newsagent. Griffiths, Alderson place..lived on there for twenty years...
Then we might know each other in that case.:)
I don't know when the shop was called Griffiths , but in that picture it was owned by Keith & Eunace Wooton. I'm guessing the picture dates from about 1975.

Great thread,
from piggy scores going up in front of the cricket pavilion, to letters to the Green Un , how things have changed.

I'll never forget a comment one of my adolescent blades mates made when a certain blades dodgy defender came off the away team bus.
It got reported next week in the Green Un with a story about blades 'fans' affecting the morale and confidence of the players
That etched immortal comment was
''Barlow, ..................What thar doin ere? ''

Oxford in January 1971. Peter Howard said your mate said a rude word. True or not?
