Turn the clock back 20 years. We had just finished 14th in the top flight in our first season in it for 15 years, we had just built a brand new all-seater stand on the kop, we had in the top 10 clubs in terms of attendances, and had a squad of players who had heart, spirit and desire in spade, one of the top young English strikers, had one of the best manager in English Football at the time and was up for sale.......

What would have happened if McCabe had taken over at the time, or someone with a respected business track record who had the finance and foresight, and was honest enough to be a successful chairman at the Lane.

At the time we got Woolhouse who did a runner with the clubs money and has been on the run for the last 20 years, had Hinchcliffe on board who would subsequently end up serving time for fraud, and then ended up with the Brearly family in charge who did everything they could to extract every last penny out of the club.

Make's you think about how different things could have been?

Mccabe wouldve fleeced it for all he could. We were in the prem 4 years ago look where that got us

I disagree. I think given a sound platform he might well have done a good job. I think McCabe is guilty of continual fuck ups at United. Where I disagree is with your belief that he's in some way intentionally shafted us.

I'd put my mortgage (if I had one...:D) on the fact that McCabe is far worse off as a result of his involvement with United, including all the foreign ventures.

McCabe would have sold Deane and Tracey for sure i remember Man u coming in for him and we wouldn't sell. I don't think anything different would have happened.

1991 - World Student Games.

2011 and Sheffield's ratepayers are still paying off the debt.

How different would Sheffield have been if they'd never got invoived?

Labour has destroyed this city... and this country. Sad but true.

Can't see why McCabe's decisions 20 years ago would have been any better than the ones hes made in the last few years.

Abso-fucking-lutely spot on. Why do people keep voting for them? (Mind you, I can understand why dole-ite scrotes vote Labour but its the reverse of turkeys voting for Christmas!)

2nd World War, Hitler sat thinking to himself "Shall I go left and knock over the Brits or shall I go right and stick it up the Ruskies". RAF gave him a bit of a workout so he went and did Russia. Epic fail.

How different would life be now if he had gone the other way?

The verdict, as it is for this thread, is who gives a fuck? Coulda woulda shoulda means your outta time, as the lady sang.

The entire history of this football club is the story of missed opportunities.

Ain't that the truth, as far back as you want to go.

Having a 3 sided ground with virtually no seating held us back for decades, we couldn't pull in the revenues that other "big" clubs could. And ever since we became 4 sided we have suffered from a succession of owners who at worst have been crooks and at best incompetent.

Steady, you'll have Jon McClure posting on here next.

Possibly, which is why I said "might". His model to build incomes from outsiude football didn't seem a bad idea until it was exposed as debt ridden. We were then hit with global recession. Bang.

Back in 1991, a similar plan "might" have worked.

Unlike the previous list of lady boys and penison raiders, I don't believe McCabe is a crook.
