At the moment, with flagged signings imminent, the defence looks competent.

The forwards, given the service, and choosing the right options, may come good.

The midfield is what needs sorting. For me Berge is not a holding midfielder. He is reluctant to put his foot in with conviction, and to win headers. Hopefully Vieira will be the man to fix that problem.

Osborn reminds me of " Mister Run Around ", otherwise known as Matt Done. Shooting from 20/25 yards out on his weaker foot with 3 team mates in the box says it all.

Play Berge further further forward to create chances, sack Norwood, and find left sided, and right sided, midfield players who can perform at this level and potentially above.

Play McBurnie as the 10 with Brewster running off him and if there's no players in the academy that can replace Osborne and Norwood then we need to close it and build an Aldi or Lidl on it

Hope to see something like this very soon.

.........Bash.....Egan.....Davies........

.......................Viera........................
..Bogle.........Berge ..........Osborn..

......................Didsy........................
......McB/Mousse......Brewster.......

Bring in a winger and a CAM as well, and with the rest of the squad as cover, we'll be fine.

Slavs not playing 3 at the back

The midfield rarely receive the ball to feet due to our misguided obsession with four at the back. This was compounded by playing a centre back at full back as he went back every single time or lumped it in the channel. Due to this, the midfielders didn't get the ball unless they went all the way back and took it of the centre backs feet, normally surrounded and facing their own goal. The back four were also defending really deep throughout so the space was far too big between defence and midfield. Out of possession I share your concern: Norwood and Berge are not mobile enough on the turn so we are vulnerable to transitions,

At the risk of repeating myself, you won't win football matches without a midfield

Thought they dropped into a 3 quite often, but must have imagined it. Didn't we use a 3 against Carlisle at times too, with Bash, Lopata and Gordon?
Yeah but in both league games he's gone with a 4

Who was the centre back playing at full back?

Robinson is a left back by trade, only really played centrally as cover for most of his career til he came here

As much as I appreciate everything Didzy has done for us over the past few years, he is not a CAM (even at Championship level).
We need a Duffy replacement, the attacking/skillful midfielder to create havoc and unlock defences... Otherwise we ll struggle to make top half.

Maybe. I'll reserve judgement until he gets the ball passed to his feet a few times though. He did make some great third man runs in the box today, but fucked the chances up unfortunately.

Yes. Berge may be that player. Didzy, for all his qualities, too often slows the game down, and is not the player to successfully convert the chances that quite often fall to him.
