MIDDLESBROUGH boss Gareth Southgate is poised to hijack Phil Jagielka’s £4.5million switch to Everton.

Boro are willing to bid £5m for the versatile Sheffield United star, 24.

They will hold talks with Jagielka this weekend. And Bryan Robson, new boss of the relegated Blades, is resigned to losing his prize asset.

Southgate hopes that Jagielka’s capture will satisfy Boro fans unhappy at the departure of hitman Mark Viduka to Newcastle.

Boro are willing to offer Jagielka, 24, a four-year deal worth around £45,000 a week.
