Micky Adams, your priority for the next 30 days.....

Just seen the goals. The first was a great hit from miles out but the keeper won't be at all proud. The second was docile defending of the very highest order. The third and fourth weren't great defending either.

In summary... Adams' priority couldn't be clearer.

Agreed. The club has no excuses either. We must, must, must, must, must sign at least 2 defenders (3 IMO). We need two centre backs and possibly another left back if Jordan is to continue having problems. Beyond that, perhaps another midfielder if they're willing to open the purse strings. Mainly for a bit of depth as we seem to be very short whenever we have a couple missing.

NO EXCUSES! It has to be done, or we will go down.

I can forgive the 4th as it was at a point when we were very stretched.

1st was a ridiculous ball back from Willo to Nos who couldn't do much else bar prod it to Eagles. Great strike from where we were sat but as you say- keeper should be disappointed.

2nd absolutely joke defending. Nos let's his man get blind side and switches off, piss easy header.

3rd was poor closing down in the 1st phase and then not picking up men when it comes across, both full backs were very very poor today and that goal just about summed them up. Lowton doesn't look comfy on left side and would switch him to right, Calve just far too weak - reminds me if Borbokis being found out as a proper full back. Not good enough there or as an out and out wide man but would be good in a 5.

Britton looked much more up for it today and got involved a lot, Willo was excellent for first 30 mins.

Yeate, Ward and Cressy still not doing enough for me.

ICalve just far too weak - reminds me if Borbokis being found out as a proper full back.

Calve actually reminds me a bit of Wayne Quinn - not good enough as a full back or a wide midfielder. Quinn could only really play as a wing back, and I think Calve is similar.

Just get the coaching squad to sort out the back four. All of them CAN play, it's just that they're continually making costly mistakes. I know that's a big ask, but bringing in new players won't necessarily be the quick win we're after. By the time they get used to playing with each other (no sniggering at the back) their confidence could be shot by the conceding of more goals.

So what if they can play. They're not our players. We need our own defenders quicksmart.

We need to sell (or give away) Montgomery and Quinn, if anyone is daft enough to take them off us; both of whom are swallowing up far more of our resources than their 'ability' remotely justifies. Yes, I know I've said it more often than some of you care to hear but it's particularly relevant as we approach January and it's sound common sense. MA would then have room to manouvre in terms of recruitment.

Uncomfortable truth time: Matt Lowton is not going to become the player some of you would like to think.

As for the suggestion that Kozluk should be anywhere near our team. I'm never lost for words but I'm really struggling to express the full extent of the sheer madness of that suggestion.

Quinn is a 'Brilliant' Player according to Andy Reid.

There you go. Proof that footballers are thick as pig shit.

I trust the evidence of my own eyes, Highbury and I'm bright enough to know that footballers sometimes say things that others want to hear.

Do you not want MA to recruit some better players? If so, we have to find the most cost-effective way to facilitate that exercise. If you can do that by offloading a couple of grossly overpaid liabilities it's surely a win-win measure? You prefer not to address my suggestion, even though the thread invites it.

Perhaps you'd sooner watch your parochial heroes parade their skills in Division Three? I've got sufficient pride in my club to expect better.

I take it you mean the board.

In which case i would contend that the board gave Blackwell at least a 2m budget to spend (including wages). Blackwell spent that money on Nosworthy, Bartley, walton, and Britton
You've under sold that by nearly half those lot would of cost closer to £4 Million throw Simmo in and your over £5 Million.

Pinchy I think Lawton will become a steady player at this level, but he isn't ready for a starting spot just yet. As with others he needs a decent squad, and to be eased in.

You misunderstand me. I think Quinn is rubbish, with virtually no redeeming qualities at this level. (Monty at least has some)

Sorry Highbury. I did indeed misunderstand. I am accustomed to knee-jerk defences of these players and thought it was another such example. My apologies. Must be alcohol fatigue!

I dare say even Noz has been described as 'brilliant' by a team mate at some time!

Roll on Monday. I predict a first victory for our new manager.

I think Lowton's value goes beyond his actual ability or potential. One of the reasons fans are a little disillusioned with the Blades is probably the lack of any relationship with the players. Lowton is a) ours and b) has been ours for a while, coming up through our system.

Of all the rest, I guess Montgomery, Quinn and Morgan are the only ones with sufficient service to have some kind of shared history with us. Perhaps I could extend that to include Henderson and, at a pinch, Ward and Evans.

This leads to another problem in that none of these six can be considered unifying factors. I don't expect 100% agreement on any player but the splits in opinion on all the above are vast. I would imagine there to be a reasonable number of fans who would be quite happy to ship out all of them.

My point with Lowton is that we need players who we can recognise as, for want of a much better phrase, 'true Blades'. It's hard to look on the Blades as ours in any real sense when the first eleven is full of recent signings and loans. I feel that this empathy was the major casualty of the sales of Naughton and Walker. Lowton may not now or possibly ever reach the standards of those two but at least he is ours and that, in our present situation, counts for rather a lot.

Our players have been soulless for the last year or so, but the slate is clean now for everyone. People on here might want to get rid of Henderson, Monty, Quinn, Ward or whoever but who is actually going to take them off us. Maybe we could give Adams more than 2 days and see what he can do with these players in a few weeks and we could be surprised. Is Perrino a rough diamond we have been scared of playing until now. Things feel different now, well for me at least.

I fully expect Adams to bring in one, maybe two lower league defenders, probably players he has worked with before. He's like Warnock in that respect. He has excellent contacts in the game, and can get the best out of players that perhaps have limited ability. These new young Irish lads may prove to be decent too.

With Henderson fit we will have a decent attack. Midfield needs strengthening and we might even need another keeper but defence must be the major priority. If we can tighten up the defence and stop leaking goals we're going to start winning games. I can't see us going down this season unless we lose Ched or Wardy. Mid table this season, challenging for auto promotion in 2011/12.

If we are challenging for promotion in 2011/12 there will have been a massive cull of the present shower with no more than three or four remaining. A big ask, you might think.

Forgot about Boggy as well.

You never quite know how good a young player will become, or how fast it will happen.

To me Lowton looks physically weak and positionally suspect, but that will improve. How much it does will determine his future role and level of success in the game.

What I like about him is the fact he has something which many never have. The eye for a pass and ability to deliver it. Not every time, but he has it.

He is physically weak, positionally suspect as you say JD. He is not particularly tall either. Yet many message board experts advocate using him at centre-back! Unbelievable.

You're no doubt hoping nobody's going to quote this tonight, right?

Perish the thought.:D

I have a picture of Pinchy here...

I actually thought Kozzy was poor up until the goal. Lost count of the number of times he lost possession and to me, he really is a stop gap and nowt more these days. Very bloody happy with him popping up at the end though :D
