Michael Tonge

I think Tonge would do well. He's spent a season at a Premiership club, training with premiership players so, he's gotta have improved. End of the day he always was more creative than anyone else we had.

He's made twelve appearances for Stoke in a little under a year. If we could sign the Tonge of 2003 then I'd be happy with that, but do we want another player who has spent so much time on the bench his arse is full of splinters?

Why should he have changed having spent so much time being inactive he chose the glamour and money let him sit and watch it!
Creative, not really he thinks he's playing rugby league as he never passes the ball forward - not very creative at all.
Too many memories of the odd game he actually performed to his potential - Liverpool 2003?

we might as well get stuart mccall back as well,he has,nt played regular either, come on you lot we would just going backwards,he is just another mediocre player thats cant get in the stoke team.have you got short memories,he was never consistant throughout the season,we need to spend big on a quality player who has the hunger and bottle for the cause

Monty and Tonge or Monty and Quinn like Blackwell made us suffer today....
I'd have him back tomorrow - not exactly the player we're in massive need of but at least we may keep the ball more than we did in the centre of the park today
Have to say the lad Potter at Swillsborough could have been an excellent signing for us - has physical presence AND can pass a ball

In what way did Monty and Quinn make us suffer ? Both did OK today and it was Taylor and Killa in the back 4 who were the weak links.

taylor was,nt good enough today,he moved about as quick as an oil tanker, lacked pace in the second half, piss poor for a young lad

They didn't get on the ball enough - even less than they usually do - and when they did their quality was worse than usual. Can't blame them as they aren't really that type of player - however both were below par and we need to start playing with a midfield if we are going to take advantage of teams like we should have today - West Brom were there for the taking, especially minus Brunt and without a replacement for Greening yet.

Agree Killa and Taylor were poor - but so were Quinn and Monty and I'm sure they'd both stick their hands up to that.

Agreed.

Taylor looks slow and average.

Naysmith cant come back soon enough.

Get him in on loan, give him ago and see if he's grown a pair of bollocks yet.

Rather McCabe put his money where his mouth is - quality not quantity? We need both according to the back of today's programme. Splash out on Beckford and Stock, keep hold of Bromby and we're sorted 'til January.

Seriously forget Tonge coming back.

Why do most of our fans (especially on here) seem to have a fetish for wanting former players to come back? Brown, Tonge etc. Not only that expecting them to come back and some how be better than they were before. The reason some are not here is because they lost form badly before they left and in the case of Tonge he can just about get on the bench for Stoke!

Forget bringing players back it would be a waste of money.

We are crying out for and athletic, combative, creative central midfielder to pull the strings and make things happen...... Michael Tonge, seriously

Depending on the injury progress, might be some movement on this today.

I agree we need an athletic, combative, creative central midfielder but those types of players cost millions and are usually already in the Premiership. I am struggling to think of a player with those qualities that we could realistically sign

Tonge doesn't even have one of those attributes.

A mate of mine at work is freakishly obsessed with Michael Tonge. It'll be the greatest day of his life if we get him back.... so that's one person who'll be happy! (Probably wont find many more though!)

Tongey might have a role to play if he's played as a midfielder and not a left winger as so often before. He rarely - if ever - took on a defender and always seemed to cut inside, thereby cramping up space in the middle of the park. Play him with wingers outside and he may be able to prove himself.

Personally I'm unsure. I think he's lived off the reputation he made in 2003 alongside Brownie and has rarely got near those hights since. Not sure he's better than what we have.

Thank Feck for that, although James Shield, (who knows everything) seems to think Blackwell was trying to bring him back........
