Would anyone be glad have Tongey back?? Infuriatingly lazy for me, but always likely to produce something special from midfield!! I'm not saying i've heard of any kind of return to us but our midfield is lacking a playmaker. :help:

We took Pulis up the wrong-un when we got £2m for Tongey and I think he will know that now! Wouldn't have him back personally. Anyway, whats the point in having a playmaker when the ball bypasses midfield anyway.....?

yeh fair one. It's just so frustrating as supporters at the moment. Gotta try and stay positive!!

He wasnt the playmaker we (The fans) are looking for before he left, he hasnt played in 12 months so why is he going to be the playmaker we're looking for now?

I say we the fans, as Im yet to be convinced that KB is looking for a playmaker anyway, as Torrix points out, we just bypass midfield.

Personally feel that Harper could make a decent fist of being our playmaker, put the players seem more intent on playing 50/50 balls for the strikers to fight for than to give it to Harper. How many times does he stand there calling for the ball waving his arms only for it to be "passed" up to our strikers.

As Ive said in another post, KB could make Maradona and Pele look shite the way he wants us to play.

we should definetly sign tonge and get him straight in the team

i dont think its fair that only cresswell and quinn get booooooooed
lets share the experience

Yesterdays man and no thanks. If (as is suggested) we don't play with a midfield surely better we get some shit hot wingers in than spend on players we won't use.

Oh and a quick striker would do nicely.

i've mentioned it already in another post but yes i'd take hime back straight away and was disappointed we went for cresswell instead. He's much better than Quinn or Reid or France and I'm sure the circumstances are right for us to get him back on a good deal, he must be going mental getting nowhere near every week.

Yep, I'd have him back but then I enjoy seeing a team play proper football and not the clueless way we currently play. Treacy, Tonge, Hendrie and Howard anybody?
The best thing that could happen right now would be for Henderson to get injured so that it forces us to change our style of play.

TB.

Dare i say get him on lone for 3 months and see what happens. For the last 3 seasons i've given the pigs stick over the number of lone players they had.

Could be revitalised being back or destroyed by the boo boys.

It would have been interesting to see what he could have done with, say Treacy/Reid on the left, Cotterill/Little on the right and Ward with Evans OR Henderson up front, i.e. pacey and mobile players to pass to.

However we seem to have gone full circle regarding pace and mobility in the team, and things wouldn't be very different to what they were when he left. As many have pointed out, there's a case for not having a playmaker like him in our line up, considering the way we play.

The Tonge of old, yes. The Tonge of late ....erm.......no better than we have already.

He wouldn't get picked even if we had him. He doesn't give 110%. My theory is there is a long line of Bramall Lane legends who wouldn't get picked by Blackie. Number one on the list, Tony Currie.

Number 2 - Keith Edwards ;)

You'd think so would you? Sadly it didn't stop us long balling it to Ward/Sharp last season

Because we were outstanding at Wembley without Hendo werent' we?

Sorry but that is a ridiculous statement wishing injury on one of our own players. If that's what supporting the Blades is all about I wouldn't bother.

Back on topic: We couldn't sign Tonge on loan now anyway as we can only loan a maximum of two players from any one club during a season.

Not true. Blackwell picked Tonge for every League game until he was FORCED into selling him. He described Tonge and Speed as the best midfield partnership in the division, so he clearly rates him. I also think Blackwell is the coach/manager who gets the best out of Tonge (02/03 being a prime example).

In the 18 league games that Tonge played for Blackwell our record was:-
P18, W10, D4, L4 = 34 pts at 1.89 per game. I.e. Automatic promotion form.

he also said he would have paid £4 million for Sharp.....

Aye, was sparkling form and decent attacking football when Blackwell was chasing a contract.

Its not something that seems to happen at bramall lane can't recall any players coming back expect Deano and he wasn't as good 2nd/3rd time round, can't see brown ever coming back either he is the only one ever rumoured.

I thought Deane was almost as good the second time round and Keith Edwards was certainly better in his second spell.

The point with Tonge is, what have we got to lose? We get him in for three months while Monty is out. If he doesn't perform, we send him back. If he does well, we could probably buy him back for a fraction of what we sold him for. What other £2M players are knocking about in Premiership reserve teams who would be willing to come here on a short-term loan?

But Tonge isn't really a £2 million player.... we had Stokes' pants down

In that case do you not think Blackwell would've at least enquired about him? I've seen, read, heard nothing to indicate he's even on the radar. Blackwell has put together a team of triers and I don't think Tonge fits the mould one bit.

That midfield would get absolutely destroyed in this division.

We dont need no bloody midfield
We just boot it in the air

(to the tune of Another Brick in the Wall)
