To Pinchy

May our lives be improved by the sight of balls being long down the channels
And the ball being pumped high and hard in to the mixer
And throwing the big lads up for long throws and set pieces
And we take the time to appreciate the winning football delivered by our hero.
The one on and only Lord David Bassett

Yours, directly

The Hoofwaffe

football being better in the late sixties early seventies is a myth
the better bit was we were in the top flight
the football was as bland as it is now , most of the time
yes Currie lit up the odd game, but to say we played sexy football is a gross distortion of the facts
there were just as many dour games even then

the good bit was just being there, playing with man utd and liverpool
remembering our relegation in 68 our last few home games were bloody abysmal
16 Mar 1968 Sheffield United v Sunderland L 1-2
13 Apr 1968 Sheffield United v Everton L 0-1
15 Apr 1968 Sheffield United v Liverpool D 1-1
23 Apr 1968 Sheffield United v Fulham L 2-3

You haven't a fucking clue, pal. Utter, complete embarrassing nonsense. You'd be far better saying nothing than showing yourself up with this sort of absolute tripe. Your understanding of proper football is matched only by your literary skills.

I couldn't list the amount of shite produced under Bassett without wearing out my fingerprints.

You're a Hoofer, not a Blade. Fucking disgraceful.

⚽. ❤⚔.

Your post is disgraceful. Unnecessarily personal, completely uncalled for and way over the top.

You are entitled to your opinion Barney. So am I and I will continue to express it. I am routinely accused of disrespecting the Hoofer, Bassett. That post disrespects a team, a manager and an era that were vastly superior to anything ever produced by Diplodocus and his ragamuffins. More to the point; its abject nonsense. That's the disgrace of it.

I heavily oppose it, but I don't think your opinion is particularly out of order in any way. What is, however, is getting aggressive and personal with someone who disagrees

Do you read what I get, and dont bleat about, when I criticise Bassett or Done?...

If people don't want robust responses, they should stop promulgating manifest drivel and content themselves with watching their collection of classic Wimbledon games.

Yeah but two wrongs don't make a right and all that...

So you're saying that if people don't want robust responses, they should only agree with you and not offer any alternative viewpoint? How does that make any sense, but more importantly how does it fit in with the fundamentals of a discussion forum? It doesn't really does it

Discussion doesn't always take place over tea and cucumber sandwiches...

Complete and utter rubbish

i don`t know why any Blade would want to criticise any of the two eras under Harris and Bassett, they were the best we`ve had things during my lifetime and recall both with fondness.

The football was prettier under Harris but yes we had some awful games too (0-5 at home to arse 1-5 at palace 0-4 home to derby even in the superb 71-72 season) but overall it was an exciting time under Harris and just as exciting under Bassett too. In both eras the players felt part of us and they mixed with us, we were in it together. And both successfully held our own in the top league . If only we`d had backing from the board in both cases instead of selling the family silver.

If you didn`t enjoy seasons 70 to 75 or 88 to 93 then you were a daft blind twat :)

Complete and utter rubbish

What part of BTL's post is utter rubbish then...just interested to get your view point on which (or all) of his/her post is bollox? I dont see a great deal wrong with what BTL had to say to be honest so just interested...

I see. In that case i cant agree. The football these days isnt as a general rule 'bland'. As for the 70's....we just swept everyone aside with scintillating football and that my friends is fact and written in tablets of stone. We were sexier then than Raquel Welsh in the 70s every single game and Currie never ever ever had an off day. It was total football every saturday back in the 70s....holland had fuk all on us Blades.

We're in agreement then - you asked me what part of the post was rubbish, and my first line tells you. If we've got our wires crossed, it may be the booze

my opinion is yes it was a better era for us as a club ,interlaced with some great displays , but to say it was a non stop parade of skill and entertainment whilst saying the Bassett era was sheer hoofball is not only insulting to a team that did just as well but offensive to those that enjoyed probably just as many good days

the 5-1 home win over cardiff to take us up under harris was matched with a 5-2 AWAY win at Leicester
Under Basset wins like the 5-2 at forest and 4-2 at southampton and the 6-0 over spurs match anything from the earlier era

football success was far more attainable when clubs had 11 v 11 ands no or only 1 sub
we could take advantage of 2 or 3 having an off day
as soon as money started playing its part we as a club floundered
for Bassett to get us back there against far better off clubs was a real achievement

I saw every game Tony Currie played
Yes there were lots of magical moments
but to say it was all wonderful is deluded beyond belief
saw us relegated twice in 8 years which is glossed over 68 and 74

Pinchy The John Harris years are discredited. It is official. Time to admit defeat and join the Hoofwaffe. You know you want to.
