Memries of Villa

First memory of Villa was a game in January mid 1960's. FA Cup tie at Bramall Lane. We lost but what always sticks in my mind was seeing Keith Kettleborough get sent off. First time I'd seen a player dismissed. In those days you'd have to commit murder before the ref fave you marching orders.

Lived in Birmingham in the mid 1970's and went to Villa Park loads of times. Andy Gray was an awesome striker. I'd go on the Holte End but when the Blades visited I went on the open Witton Road end. Cannot ever remember us winning down there in those days.

I knew a number of Villa fans and saw them win the league cup in 1975 against Norwich at the old Wembley. Ray Graydon had a penalty saved by Kevin Keelan but he scored the follow up.

Went to Old Trafford and saw them beat Everton in a League cup final replay. Chris Nicholl scored a cracker. Ended up sleeping on floor in a flat in Moss Side but that's another story.

League cup final reply, I went to the game at Hillsborough that finished 0:0, the Villa fans had the kop end and were really quite, the Everton fans were fantastic that night, some of the loudest support I have heard at a game.

Back in the 90’s when it snowed, Dwight Yorke took that cheeky penalty and got pelted with snowballs....Nigel Kennedy(violinist) got loads of abuse on south stand and Graham Taylor was spat at, then tried to make a citizens arrest.

A bit like me with Everton. Been a Blade 35 years and still have yet to see us play Everton, just always seem to miss them when they are at Bramall Lane. They are one of 6 or 7 teams in the top four divisions that in yet to see, and Goodison Park is one of about a dozen grounds I’m yet to visit

Bully for you.

Eddie Colquhoun netting one of his two goals in the 5-0 win in November 1969. 6 weeks before I became a committed Blade. Dont think I was aware of the 5-0 win until later that season

I think that 1993/94 season saw us lose the same number of games as Liverpool but it was the draws that killed our season. Maybe Wilder understands that and gives him the reason to go all out for a win.

We drew 18 games that season and half of those were 0-0 draws.

We failed to score in 16 matches in all which I think tells it's own story.

The sale of Brian Deane undoubtedly cost us our Premier League place. It may have got us £2.9 million in the short term, but cost us many millions more than that in the longer term and set us back years.

I agree but with one big exception. It didn't get 'us' £2.9m. And it didn't cost the people responsible for his sale many millions.

The cup game in 74,rained all day, lost 4-0,mate got arrested, plus side was subsequent trial meant a couple of days off school being the star witness ,mate innocent and left with not a stain on his character

I went to the 1-1 draw in 1987 but remember next to nothing about the game.

I remember the FA Cup 4th Round game in 1996 because I wasn't there....
Couldn't afford to go at the time, but a friend of mine lived on Shoreham Street bang opposite the back of the kop so me and another mate watched it on TV at his house. We 'soaked up' the pre-match atmosphere outside the ground, bought a programme, went in scarves and hats and then went in the house to watch it on TV.

Awful game as I recall, probably due to aforesaid player inebriation. Remember Villa winning it with a Dwight Yorke panenka style penalty. What was weird was the three second delay between the cheers heard from the ground outside to the action on the TV.

"Live" my arse!

Memries of Villa for me are twofold:

1. I still fucking hate Savo Milosevic, the cheating twat.
2. The upwards of 5-minute continuous, deafening rendition of "Shoreham Boys, we are here," during the cup game in 2014. That, and Flynn's winner.
