Remember that game so well. Absolute bedlam in the away end despite the golf ballsMid 80s first visit losing 2-0 early doors if memory serves, away fans in a corner next to kippax who at this point did stop throwing golf balls at us but somehow we turned it around to win 3-2 bedlam in away end but the golf balls did make a reappearance....

Best thing about that day ( after driving all the way from Scotland ) was I sat quite near the front and got a lovely tan.Been once to Maine Rd.
Tracey got sent off early
Lost 6 nil or so.
Coach blew up in car park when we got there
Got coach home with nutters
Coach got pulled over as fire door was opened knocking a copper off her horse
Two banned lads pulled off the coach by coppers
Got told to get off coach by other lads to all stand in the road blocking traffic. Forcing coppers to release said lads.
Got dropped off outside White horse on halifax road while rest of passengers said "hello" to our rivals in said pub.
I was about 15 and 4ft tall
Rate day.
I went to the 4-2 cup defeat at Maine Road in 1988 it was a really good game tho and I think City were 2 divisions above us at that time
Not sure about the game in February 1972 but I remember when we played in the Texaco Cup in August 1974 (we won 4-2, Denis law played and then he played one more game a few days later before deciding to retire), TC was on the left wing (John Street side) receiving a kick from Jim Brown, caught the ball with his hands and booted it towards the back of the John Street Stand. I was wondering what was going on and then dad had explained to me that someone in the John Street had blown a whistle and the ref ran over to a policeman to report the phantom whistler. Dont know if the police or stewards found who the whistler was.Was it against them one of their fans kept blowing a whistle in the Bramall Lane terrace and the ref stopped the game? 1971-2 season? Well whoever it was, I was there. Went to Maine Rd once, parked on a street close to the ground and some local youths said they would 'look after the car' for us. I told them to get stuffed and by some miracle it was still in one piece when we returned. (Ford Escort Popular)
I think the ref was Roger Kirkpatrick, a fat little toad but actually a decent ref.Was it against them one of their fans kept blowing a whistle in the Bramall Lane terrace and the ref stopped the game? 1971-2 season?
