Feeling extremely hungova at Birmingham last season after a night out in Birmingham. Was quite happy to see a nice quiet 0-0 being played out until that little git Phillips scored. To make matters worse, spent the afternoon in some horrible pub seeing Wednesday go goal happy via Sky Sports.

Feeling extremely sunburnt at Burnley as we fought our way to a well deserved 1-1 draw. Saw the debut of Bromby who was very good and helped with the goal. Should have won it at the death when Suntan managed to hit the bar from less than a yard out. Although Wednesday were beaten on their debut in League 1 by Colchester at home 3-0. I thought we'd make a good start to that season after that game, we then went and got one point out of Stoke & Reading at home, before winning 1-0 away at QPR (statto/saddo).

Feeling extremely happy after we beat Leicester 4-1 which was a flattering scoreline to say the least. Went on to have an ok season...

Any more notable ones?

Each description must start with 'Feeling extremely':)

The Burnley away one (red hot day) from a few years ago is probably the one that sticks out the most in my mind.

Drawing 1-1 with Liverpool, when they were given that dodgy penalty, just another poor mistake against us.

Getting beaten by Coventry 2-1 with an Asaba 25 yard rocket and losing to a controversial goal that should not have stood.

A sweltering BDTBL at home to Gillingham. 0-0.

salvaging a 1-1 draw to Burnley, bright orange away kits debut.

Ifill beating leicester 4-1.

Keith Edwards all four goals in a nice opening day thrashing of Gillingham at The Lane in glorious sunshine sometime in the eighties.

Anybody remember Reading away (Deano's first goal!) and West Brom (turned 'em over 3-0 and the first time the dayglo lime shirts appeared!) the following season,on Harry Bassett's run from 3rd to 1st Division?

I also have a vague recollection of Watford (H) on our first season in Div 1. We won 3-0 and I think big Jostein & Mitch Ward scored.

C'mon Darren.

First game back in the top division back in the early 90's against Liverpool. Stinking hot - 3pm kick-off (whatever happened to them?). Seeing grown (and I mean properly grown - grey hair, tattoos, the lot) men crying real tears on the Kop seeing United running out to a full house in the first division after 16 years. That's one of the best non derby-day or Leeds atmospheres pre-game I've ever experienced.

Nothing much changes though - Ian Rush booted Tracey in the face and we get done 3-1 with all the decisions going their way. The next 3 months were worth it though for the Forest game and the second half of the season.

Deane handing then plain old Alex Ferguson a beating in his first Premiership match.

We beat Manchester United 2-1 that game, and again in the cup. I saw my first match on the last day of that season and we've never beaten them since!

Beating newly promoted Swindon in the Premier League, just after Hoddle left to go to Chelsea. They took the lead, I'm sure it shouldn't have counted; perhaps my memory is hazy but I think they took the free kick before the ref had blown and we weren't really ready. Won 3-1 though!

2001... away to Forest and losing, before Devlin popped up with an equaliser.

Mousey and I have had a traditional text count down to kick off on the first day of the season since then :D

Best opening day ever has to be back in the Premiership v Liverpool!! What a day at the Lane that was! Would have been better if we didnt get screwed though.

1-1 against Liverpool as tis the only SU opening game i've been too.

This is the one for me, and I have been to a few, I worked out of Liverpool at the time and have many mates who are Red Men. It was great to get them as 1st game I had plenty of stick about how many they were going to get. Then to lead for so long was just brill, its a shame we were robbed, I even got a text from one of the scousers watching on tv saying it was a dive and he was embarrassed about it.

My first game.

Blades went 1 up and then they scored from a quickly taken free kick when no one was ready.

leicester city at home we won 4-1 i think it was, ifill looked like he was going to be a really great signing, i remember coming away from that match and thinking this looks like a team that was going places. Got better vibes this season i think the squad is twice as strong.

I thought I might have something wrong! Funnily enough, I can't remember any of our goals, but I can picture theirs as if it were yesterday. Was Fjortfot in their side back then, or did he come later?

John Moncur scored with the quickly taken free kick for Swindon. Yes, Fjortoft played for them that day. For many months he didnt score a goal!

My favourite opening day was the 3-1 win at home to Southampton in Aug 1971. We had just been promoted to the 1st division. Woodward gave us an early lead with a penalty and Geoff Salmons increased our lead with a rare header (he admitted to my dad in a conversation years ago that heading was a weak part of his game). Brian O'Neil pulled one back for the Saints in the 2nd half before John Flynn made the game safe for us with a powerful header.

The 3-0 win at WBA in 1989 was great too. Their manager, Brian Talbot dismissed our chances of going up but at the end of the season he was made to eat his humble pie and sent a card of congratulations to Dave Bassett.

The 2-0 win at home to Sunderland in 1997 was a great display and I thought we were going to walk promotion. Borbokis dazzled us and McGrath showed true class. The return of Deane gave us high hopes

Liverpool was one of the great momments.

I had really thought that those days had gone and the two promotions brought them back quicker than anyone could have dreamed of. It really was an emotional day, was stood on the John St terrace and there were definatly tears in my eyes.
