in the cup a few years ago went in that pub other side of the motorway ,also went to the old ground came out of station and got wacked round the ear hole blades fans were just hitting anybody was the day when we thought we had blown promotion as lost 4 1 and there was trouble all day

Lost away 2-0 in the cup a fair few years ago. Tinnies in Asda car park because there's one nearby pub and it was home fans only. Kicked off at a bar near Piccadilly in Manc. Friend of a friend got beaten for looking the wrong way at a nasty bastard Hull fan. Discovered it's quite hard to run away from a scrap in Chelsea boots. Fun day.

My only memory is singing a homemade Paul Ifill song over and over again with my mate trying to get anyone to join in.
For a kid I thought the song was great, so I'm blaming the lack of participation-on our fans realising he was shit well before I did!

Nil nil that year they got promotion.. Crap game I think they rested a load ..

The world's softest Australian Dave Carney scoring when we beat them 1-0 in the cup.

They'd played Bayern Munich in the Uefa Cup a few weeks before and it was the first time i'd ever seen a half and half scarf. Wanted to burn them all then and my opinions never changed.

Jesus Christ I'd almost forgot about that wage theif.

Seem to recall a midweek evening game there. Probably late 90s/early 00s. Took a Villa fan colleague who lived near the Reebok. Think it was dull 0-0

Been to Burnden Park twice, Reebok once (David Carney goal)

January 1971. John Tudor's and Alan Hodgkinson's last league match for us. Tudor scored in the first munite but Bolton (who finished bottom at the end of the season) hit back to win 2-1

April 1977. Goals from Chico Hamilton (Pen) and Keith Edwards give us a surprise 2-0 lead (Bolton were more likely to get promotion than Forest at the time) before they score a late goal. After the match outside the ground I saw an elderly man collapsing after a heart attack. Not nice

Only been once to Bolton at the old Burnden Park, which was in the city centre.

I think it was 1984 and united were pushing for promotion

There was trouble all around the ground from kick off and the blades went behind straight away.

We were stood on a wide banked terrace and their were blades all over the ground

We got hammered 3-1 and Edwards scored a consolation goal late on where he ducked his head into a bouncing ball and nearly had it kicked off.

It seemed a pointless and meaningless goal at the time but ultimately we went up a couple of weeks later on goals scored from Hull City.

Not a great away day.

That evening we got a boost after hearing that already relegated Port Vale had beaten Hull 1-0!

The 1977 game was our last away win against them in the league: we've gone 9 games since without victory, though of course we won there in the cup in 2008.

That's right. I travelled back on the train and we picked up that news on a transistor radio just as we got back to Midland Station. The guy in front of me danced down the platform and got lamped by a copper for no reason other than he felt like it.

Oh the 1980's - what fun.

Apart from Edwards goal, my memory of that day is 1,000 blokes all trying to squeeze into the worlds smallest toilet at half time.
It was a right crush, one of those moments when you are swept along with the crowd, out of your control.

Love the old grounds, but sometimes sentiment isn`t all its cracked up to be o_O

Only time I've been was under Warnock, last day of the season. I think it was 01/02 and seem to remember Micheal Tonge made his debut. Asaba scored for us but they got a last minute equaliser.

The modern and the traditional. The Macron/Reebok and Burnden Park. Really steep rake and fantastic sightlines but utterly soulless plastic location ? Or decrepit terracing , fabulous history and close to city centre pubs ? Reminds me why we are so lucky to have the Lane with its combination of most of the good features in one place. Apart from watching Currie & Woody in my early seasons , the Lane itself is probably the basis of my love for the Blades , the pull of the ground being accentuated by not having lived in Sheffield since I was 18 - 40 years ago.
Best personal memory of Burnden Park is 1984. One end of ground was on Manchester Rd near city centre. Other end backed onto a fast dual carriageway called the A666. We had been drinking in Manchester and arrived late , ended up parking on wrong side of A666 and had to climb various railings to reach ground. Then discovered massive throng of Blades trying to fit through 1 turnstile. Deduced we would miss the start so having warmed up our climbing skills , we promptly climbed over the decrepit perimeter wall and made the kick-off , only to see us go 3-0 down - divine retribution ? But then Keith Edwards stuck his head in for a promotion-winning consolation and got it booted so hard I honestly thought he might never recover.
