Media's View On The Depature Of Clough

After watching the complete and utter tripe served up last season, I struggle to see how anyone could not be pleased with Clough's sacking, providing we bring in the right manager

With our track record of upgrading managers I would say there's everything to be utterly terrified about. Had he had more than one full season under his belt I would have felt easier about it but hey we are where we are. What comes next is going to be "interesting".

Problem is too many short memories with football fans. Anyone remember the dross Warnock served up the season before we got promoted? That was a bloke who already had a few seasons under his belt. With today's mentality he would have been chucked under the bus with fans cracking one off over his remains.

Didn't realise we'd named a street in his honour...

I can see your point but Warnock served up dross in the Championship. For Clough to do it in League One, in my opinion, is unacceptable.

If he had another season at it then I would ha en agreed but one full season wasn't enough. But we will never know so it doesn't really matter. Time to get behind the next manager until his first defeat at least.

45 points in the last 32 games!

22 Players signed!

5 points and 2 places better off despite having 13 extra League Games and spending £3M in Transfers alone in a very poor league.

not knowing his best 11 after 63 games.

Not listening and taking onboard others views, whether good or bad.

Falling out with player after player if they dare to question his decisions.

I'd call that a Manager getting in the way of Progress, not someone to trust your future to

The Journo's are wrong

After watching the complete and utter tripe served up last season, I struggle to see how anyone could not be pleased with Clough's sacking, providing we bring in the right manager (easier said than done). The only reason we finished 5th last year was due to the incredibly poor nature of our league, not because Clough was 'building' something.

Have people's standards dropped? We are Sheffield United. I expect mediocrity, but not in the 3rd division for god's sake.

Spot on. What, in Clough's 17 years of failure as a 'manager', leads people to think he was 'building' something? Clough proves the adage that 'you can fool some of the people some of the time' etc. Yes, I'll remember the Southampton game for years to come. I'll also remember the Yeovil, Fleetwood, Crewe etc. games. I'll particularly remember how we started last season with the sight of the laughably overweight and unfit Higdon being made captain against Bristol City. Yes, the Clough apologists will point out, Higdon scored in that game. The difference is, Bristol kept scoring whereas Higdon occupied the treatment table and Clough kept his best - proven - scorers on the subs. bench. Clough has got a hell of a lot to explain.
