Mcgoldrick

CW has a habit of seeing "something" in players like him who might be on the decline and manages to get someting out of them. Mcgoldrick isnt up there in my book and wouldnt have signed him if I was the one calling the shots but hes slotted away 4 since we've had him (a few of which were the winner) so clearly CW knows more than I do.

Agreed. Did exactly the same with Donaldson last season. Bit of a WTF? signing, but turned out to be an excellent addition for what we paid. Scored some important goals for us too. I've no doubt McG will continue this very good form for us. He keeps getting the chances so will surely keep putting them away!

His quality is undoubted.
His touch and skills are very good, he perhaps lacks a bit of natural finishing ability as he can miss a few.
Though with strikers it tends to be about form, and that usually comes with games and consistency.

He has certainly shown he offered plenty to this side so it’s another winner for Wilder.

His ability fits in really well with our team, very good footballer, the Ipswich fans to be fair seemed to really rate him just questioned his fitness, if he stays fit he looks like a million pound player, for nowt!

He might score 19 goals this season but if he has a few bad games towards the end of the season and starts next season out of form he’ll be seen as wank by some.

Agree, what Sharp and Clarke have done for this club is fantastic
But a few poor games and that’s all forgotten....and all of a sudden they’re crap, and we need to get rid. I expect McGoldrick will get abuse sooner or later for being crap too.

Couldn't believe me ears when Keith Edwards was having a bit of a pop, saying how quiet he was. Thought he was excellent all game again.

If he scores two against our Truffle Snuffling neighbours then I think your premise is misfounded.. ;)

He played well today. Dropped a bit too deep at times, but those may have been his instructions and he’s very clever on the ball.

We must sign someone with pace though and who can do something out of nothing. They may not be cheap, but it’d be worth it. Love watching Billy and McG but I fear they won’t be able to do it across a 46 game season.

He and Sharp are doing excellently. That’s not a criticism of our other strikers, but they’ve been great so far. We knew enough about Sharp, but let’s remind ourselves that McGoldrick was a player busting a gut in pre-season just to get a contract from us. I’m absolutely delighted to see him doing so well for us.

"Ya know what I mean arry...":D
Spot on with one thing though, when he says "the way this team plays football and creates chances I will score goals.."

Keith had a bit of a mare last night. He talked about how well Duffy, Sharp, and Flynn(!) were hooking up, and got players confused constantly. Still find him really loveable, though, especially when we win!

Mcgoldrick looks a great signing. Really starting to fit in well and looks stronger each game.

Clarke has given us much more than anyone expected but to be fair it isn't just a few games he's been off the pace since xmas and has only scored 5 goals in his last 30 games.

People are right to start to ask questions of this but for me the tone of some of this criticism has been quite harsh.

I thought when Ipswich came to the Lane last season that McGoldrick looked a really good player. Great skill and control on the ball, it was just that he wasn't getting much decent service.
I was very pleased when we signed him and a no-brainer for me on a free! Fair play to him too for being prepared to come in on trial and work for a contract, proved he's no big time charlie.

Mcgoldrick has always been a classy player. He has skill in abundance.

I was very keen for him to sign when i heard he was with us for a trial (as I have seen him many times over the years and I knew he was a classy player) though being the suspicious type, I thought he must be another John Ebbrell as this was surely the only reason that Ipswich had let him go without kicking up a major fight to keep him.

However, i think that geography had a part to play which came to our advantage, as it soon became apparent that he was a family man who lived in Nottingham and wanted a much smaller commute to work everyday which Sheffield would be. I also got the impression from what i heard, that his 'injuries' were niggles that were probably exacerbated by the daily long commute he was undertaking.

Sheffield suits him and his family, and he suits us as a player. Really well done to our scouting team and CW for picking him up for nothing and being aware of the situation, and well done to the lad himself for having the hunger to want to prove to himself that he could still be a major player in this league.

As mentioned above, geography probably played a part here, as it did when we got Norwood. I suppose it is a bit of a reverse in the normal trend where a lot of players (more so overseas players) tend to want to migrate down south nearer the capital for lifestyle reasons, and want a huge pay increase to encourage them try their luck up north example being if tou was a young lad with plenty of money in your pockets would you prefer to hang out in Fulham or Middlesbrough?

His impact has pleasantly surprised me, and long may it continue. He was signed as #3, and he’s quickly established himself as #2. He’s approaching his 31st birthday and needs to avoid injury, which is unfortunately something he hasn’t been able to do in the previous 13 years of his career. 4 in 10, is a great return for a free. The ball is now in Leon’s court. :)
