McGinn

I agree ,but giving it to a useless lump like Hill ,who shouldn't even get a shirt would be disasterous. Cloughs most important job will be finding an experienced player who can play and motivate to get hold of the team by the knackers sometimes and get them going. Someone like John Eustace, who Clough signed for Derby might be available. Metgod was that kind of character too.His dad did it at a whole different level with Dave Mackay ,be nice if history could repeat itself :)

I agree, I was just struggling to think who to give it to if it was taken from Doyle and he, rather unfortunately, was the only player in the ranks I deemed anywhere near suitable. However far have we fallen :(

I just hope that the end of Doyle's captaincy comes on Saturday when he is laid prone on the turf with his leg at right angle and shinbone sticking out of his sock

Steady on feller - I wouldn't even wish that on Mel Sterland or Terry Curran

Syphilis, maybe, but give it some sense of proportion about Doyle, please.

Its sad, but when the only hope you are left with are your senior pro's suffering career ending injuries you are genuinely fucked

shocking comment.. i would admit to nearly posting it myself though :/

Just to point out that I meant the bouts of Syph to be afflicted on Messrs Sterland and Curran, and that they had received it up the 'Arris - not for such an ailment to be bestowed upon Michael Doyle. I just felt that Brownie had the balance of the comment way too harsh on this occasion.

Clough said:
- good young player, too much in his locker to sit in front of the back four
- struggled with match fitness/ getting tired in the games he plays
- at Colchester didnt get close enough to the Colchester players
- in with a shout to start on Saturday

If he starts tomorrow then we have half a chance of winning that match.

I'd give it Maguire.
Why?
Players in front of the messiah for the captains job IMO would be
Mcmahon who I cant stand
Collins who would be no better than Doyle.
Truth is we dont have anyone in the squad that is capable of leading what is a very poor team.

In football, the captains job is predominantly to either lead by example or be vocal in encouraging and motivating his team - unfortunately Doyle is incapable of doing either but then again neither is anyone else in the squad.
We are bereft of any natural leaders - some may say we are bereft of natural footballers !

Is lack of pace another weakness for McGinn? A couple of times I've seen him struggle to get to balls, although if he's been out of breath it may possibly explain it. All central midfielders don't have to be quick, but I see it as a weakness if both are very slow.

Why? Because I haven't jumped on the new bandwagon that he's the 2nd worst player in the squad (behind Doyle of course).

I still see a good, and improving, centre half that will be with us for quite a few years longer than most of this shite. Bit of a cliche but the captain shouldn't be the only one organising on the pitch and as far as I can see Maguire generally leads by example. Giving him the captaincy may bring him out of his shell a bit too in terms of being more vocal, could be the making of him.

By my reckoning, our record with and without McGinn (including cup games) is as follows:

Started:
Played: 8
Won: 4
Drawn: 2
Lost: 2
PPG: 1.75

Not Started:
Played: 12
Won: 0
Drawn: 2
Lost: 10
PPG: 0.17

Now I'm not saying that starting him will immediately solve all our problems, but surely it should be obvious that we are a better team with him playing. I can't understand how he plays well, gets assists and then finds himself on the bench for the next match.
Another start, another win

Whatever reservations NC may have about McGinn fitness, tracking or otherwise, we look more creative and composed with him in the team. My only worry now is that NC may tinker again and drop him, he did it before by dropping him after the Crewe game which was criminal in my opinion.

he has quick feet that don't need to breathe.

Another win with McGinn, is that nearly all matches that we have won where he played?
There might just be a pattern there.

I didn't see the match today but the RS commentary included 2 of his passes in the build up to the goal too.

Clichés are good Wards, especially when they are constructive as in your post.
From this distance it would appear that the team don't communicate enough. Here comes another cliché.Every soldier should have a Field Marshal's baton in his knap sack and again, every player should strive to captain a side by ability, example and communication.
Looking back, over the years, though he was with us but for a short time, Trevor Hockey was an organiser on the field. When he made his feelings known, the residents around the rust bucket would probably have heard him. He led by example.
If I were N.C. My next signing would be a big kick ass, put himself about a bit player, who met the above requirements. You know the type Morgs would be a good illustration of the points I am making. Come on Nige'
before it is too late. Congrats BTW on the win yesterday. My piggy mate in N.Z, is bereft.

I said this in the summer, but we need a new Morgs or even a Derry
