Just read in the star that SUFC haven't given them any deadlines for a decision on the new contracts!?

Surely if the players agents drag this out and if they were to leave towards the start of the season this could leave us well and truly up s**t creak?!

Why don't we take a firmer stance, you either commit and stay or leave and let us make plans without you.

Most footballers contracts end 30th June. Until that point they are still under contract with SUFC, I would guess that the club after that date will invoke any contingency plan they have, be that signing identified players or promoting from within (Chappell, Whiteside, McAllister, Tonne etc.).

They are probably still on holiday. They might not even be in the country. When does pre season training start? Iam guessing around 1st of July. Even so, they might not have to report back. I would imagine contract negotiations are tricky at this time of year. There has not been much transfer activity, which is probably indicative of the above.

Personally I cannot see K Mac or Willo signing new deals. I would be amazed if there have not been scouts from Championship clubs watching them this year. They have no allegiance with SUFC and I expect they'll go to play at a higher level. Unfortunate but realistic.

Wilson has said he doesnt know his budget for next season, I assume the reason for this is he doesnt know if the out of contract players will be signing. He also said he that some of his targets have gone elsewhere.
They need to make their mind up quickly or feck off

A decision deadline has to be set in the interests of the club - bigger than any player at the end of the day.
Mid July would not seem unreasonable with Danny lining up in- principle replacements in the interim. This will focus their minds and not leave them with a fall back should all else fail.

if i were Willo, at 30 u wudnt see me for dust, id never sign that.

if i were K Mac, id need some assurances we're not going to be down here for the next few years. to ask him to play below his level again is going to take a substantial reward for his sacrifice. i think he shud be allowed time to make his mind up properly, altho take the point abt the club needing to know.

DW has said in his interview that today is d day however it may still take a couple of weeks to get sorted out.

I was gonna press the like button but I don't like your post-(Foxy needs to put an agree button.)
I just totally agree with it, except on whether they sign new deals with us or not - they just might resign, it all depends on what we offer as opposed to other teams and their own expections.
K-mac might think that another year in Div 1 is acceptable to become a cult hero and stay for a while if we get promoted or he could just chase the money and end up on the bench at a higher club ie. Slew. Only him and his agent knows.

The transfer window doesn't end until the end of August and it never really gets going until the end of July anyhow.
It's miles to early to be saying that DW is missing out on the players he wants and most players will be away for the next couple of weeks or so.

I thought DW had been quoted as saying that "2 or 3 players" he had his eye on had already gone elsewhere?

Had his eye on or actually contacted to see if they would come??

Obviously he will want to know that the players he wants will be here as soon as possible, problem is players, managers and agents could still be away or playing the waiting game.

According to the 'Dingle Chronicle' Keith Hill has targeted over 50 players for them so I bet DW has a similiar big list.
Some will sign, some will ignore his advances, some will mess him about and some will have have agents who fuck it up for everyone
We just have to wait and see.

I heard him say that he has not given any deadline to Williamson and K Mac
he was on blades player and was asked is this d day for porter, willo etc and he said it is in one respect but the players are out of contract so they can talk to whoever.

I heard him on Radio Sheffield and he said he had not given Willaimson or K Mac any deadline as they were good players we wanted to keep

Because like it or not, in this case the players and their agents hold all the aces. We're deperate to keep them, they'll be looking for something better, can't blame them for that after the huge let down of last season.

What are your thoughts on a trip to Malta this year?

Should be going to Scotland instead, so I could come and have an ale with you. Week in the sun for the lads, hol for the fanatics, sponsors happy .... everyone is happy. It is just a week and seems well positioned, i.e. Wilson has 2-3 weeks in early July to sign players (that are either back from hols and/or out of contract) and still has 2-3 weeks after to bring in players. 8 weeks to the start of the season. Plenty of time to make signings. 1 week in the med will not do any harm (I am going for 3 this summer :) ).

As much as id like them to stay i think another 7 days is more than enough.
We as a team need to have a good pre season. Players getting to know each other. As in where they are going to be if i get the ball on the wibg i know player b will make a cutting run inside.
We dont want it where players just arrive a week before the season starts. (sometimes cant be helped i know)
Then we get "the players need time to gell"

I have faith in DW, but he needs to be able to deal now. Not at the last min.

I think Kevin McDonald is far better than any new player we could hope to sign whilst we're stuck plying our trade at the pub level we're at at the moment. If it means he eventually decides to stay, he's welcome to as much time as he needs for me.

He doesn't owe us anything and if he's willing to play for us in this league again next season then that's brilliant.

Kevin McDonald hopeful of Sheffield United stay
Sheffield United midfielder Kevin McDonald is hopeful of being able to come to an agreement with the club over a new deal.
The 23-year-old midfielder is out of contract at the end of this month.
He told BBC Radio Sheffield: "I'd like to say I'm fully confident of being back next season but I'm not in a position to do so at present.
"I want to get it sorted out soon and if they offer me the right deal I'd be delighted to sign."
He added: "My agent has been speaking to the club a couple of times a week and we're waiting to hear back from them.
"No one else has made me an offer."
The former Burnley man is among a number of players - including striker Chris Porter and winger Lee Williamson - who are considering new deals.
And McDonald believes that the Blades, who lost to Huddersfield in the League One play-off final last season, are capable of mounting another promotion push.
"I don't know what's going on with the others but I think that they're in a similar position to me in that they'd like to come back to the club," he continued.
"I think with the players that are still there we'd have an unbelievable chance of going up next season."
