Chaps,

Baring him saying 'no', got be the front-runner. Can see him & Morgan being presented as our new 'dream-team'. Have doubts about this. Are we going down the emotional route of ex-Blades coming to our rescue? Didn't work with Blackwell or Adams. McCall has been away from Div 1 for three years. He wasn't a hit at Bradford. His success has been in Jock-Land, and as we know with Flynn & Murphy, totally different league to Div 1.

I like the bloke, as I do Morgan, but do the dream team have the experience to get us out of this league?

I think if McCall comes he will want to bring Kenny Black, his assistant at Motherwell, I understand Black lives in the area anyway, (Dronfield?)

To be honest I could see MOrgan being totally squezed out with Rhino going back to his Academy job..

With Torrix on this one, I think McCall will bring Black in and Morgs will be on his way, whether it be his choice or not.

From a coaching perspective, let's not forget Morgs was a key man around the squad and the U-21s last season and we all saw what happened. Whilst you can't blame Morgs for this, he was Wilson's 'eyes in the stand', the one who should have been seeing exactly what we were seeing yet nothing changed in the latter part of the season. Of course being boss, or 2nd in command to McCall would be different but I think it's best if he moved on, a shame in a way because to some extent I think he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

If Morgan will be our defensive coach it will be interesting to see if he'll be going back to the way Warnock and Blackwell organised our back four + midfield, i.e. putting a lot of emphasis on man marking. Danny Wilson used a more zonal marking set up.

We need to put emotions to one side and think of what's best for our club, McCall would / should bring in his own backroom staff , Morgs has been a fantastic servant at our club but should'nt be a new managers second in command , the new man will want to put his stamp on the management team cause if it does'nt work , could he then turn around and point his finger at the club claiming to have been hamstrung . ? Besides if he get's the best out of smurfy , and brings down there top score could be a good un . UTB.

Im not so sure about Morgan.

However i think given time. McCall would do a decent job here.

The defence wasnt the problem last season ,with a novice keeper and shit midfield we kept a lot of clean sheets. Scoring and creating goals was the problem ,i would like to see Morgan kept as a defensive coach.

Absolutely not. Thought we were in line for a change. Seems not, it's just another ploy to keep the door revolving. This comes of having an owner who's past his sell by date and unable to embrace change. Sadly Sheffield Utd is a dysfunctional organisation with too many chiefs and possibly too many Indians too. I despair ! McCall could do a good job but with his hands manacled behind his back I doubt it. He'd be better to either stay where he is and wait to see what happens at Wigan. He'll only have to wait til Monday to hear whether Martinez is on the move. Ideal job then for McCall as he would have the challenge of getting them back into the PL and he would have a shot at Europe as well. Of course he could wait even longer and see if it goes tits up at Everton. But Utd he's be mad.

very simple basic observation of which there is no rebuff possible

Forgot to say that sadly Morgan's time has been and gone for the moment. Maybe at a later date when he's had some more experience of managing he could come back and show us something new!

Agree that we were decent defensively last season, was Morgan in charge of our defensive organisation?

Well he has always done the drills with the defence in the warm up before games, but maybe that was just to give him something to do on game days!

Going by the above I assume you think he'd be a good signing for us then?

Trouble was we were defensive as a team with the full backs not bombing forward and the 'wingers' dropping deep. Whilst this helped the defence, it was at a loss to the attack. I think this was down to the formation and tactics rather than particularly brilliant defending / coaching.

Had we been more attack minded, we undoubtedly would have conceded more goals.

McCall would be nowhere near the Wigan or Everton job

Stranger things have happened! In football no one knows who their next manager will be. I doubt very much if many people expected David Moyes to be Fergie's successor.

No actually. I hate the idea of anyone with a Blades connection taking on the manager's role. I want to see a complete change but it's not going to happen anytime soon.

Eh? I think its been quite well known that Moyes was favoured by SAF as his successor for quite some time.

Strange that someone who could be considered for a Premiership side and one who have only just lost their status is not right for us because he used to be one of us?

I think we would be lucky to land McCall and should all welcome him back with open arms.

He could even come with up to five out of contract first team players.

The more I think about it the better the idea of McCall seems.

For what it's worth I would support the McCall appointment
Management is about learning and whilst he struggled at Bradford he certainly showed his mettle at Motherwell !
He certainly would be respected by the players and should be by the fans!

assistants are the most underrated people in football.
most successful managers have an assistant they trust and see eye to eye with.
shoe-horning morgan in with a new manager would be baggy trousers do do de do.

I just watched the damned utd and felt that about peter taylor to brian clough, assistants are v underrated

If McCall is the right man, then he is the right man period and unconditionally which means he picks the assistant he wants, which will be Black! Has to be the same if it is Robinson, which would be very interesting!
