What the has he just been spouting on Radio Sheffield?

Anyone listen?

He hasn't been "spouting" anything.

He'd spoken to Radio Sheffield and said that "all transfer activity is done in the best interests of the club".

He didn't comment either way regarding Beattie and wasn't on air. Apparently he'll be talking at 2.10pm tomorrow.

Ah right before the team news is out. :)

Ill be in the pub.... someone brine a wireless!

Personally I think that means he has gone

Well I will be in the pub anyway

That is what I think aswell.

If he hasnt gone he would of just said there is no truth in the Beattie transfer rumour.

More likely is that the Beattie deal is pending; meaning he cannot come out and confirm or deny. The amount of hysteria surrounding the rumours suggests that he is doing the right thing by not coming out and making a statement.

While i'm disappointed in losing Beattie i am more disappointed in losing his for such a rediculously low fee (if the rumours surrounding the fee are anywhere near accurrate).

Just when i thought this window was shaping up as the dullest yet!

yes, if beats has gone for the suggested 2.5million then that's a joke. Surely we should be holding out for at least the 4million we paid everton?

But were Utd. 'Never Knowingly Undersold'........

If true a total disgrace.

If at the end of the season we dont end up in the Play Offs. Would it have been worth it for £2.5M?

Why not keep him & go for it & if at the end of the season we dont go up, then surely we would get 2.5 anyway?

Im trying to be positive & hoping Blackwell will bring one or two in but i just cant see it.

That was NEVER going to happen though, regardless of the recession. He's 30 years old and on £35k for God's sake!

Everybody knew when we signed him that we'd never get that money back! And now you've got to consider the economy. If you consider that the average house value is down 20%, add that to the fact that he's now over the dreaded 30 mark, then £2.5m doesn't seem too bad to me!

£2.5m don't sound too bad if we get a good younger replacement, what niggles me is the fact that we have big earners still at the club who don't feature, Carney, Gillespie, Hendrie etc plus others over 30 who have little or no future in the game. The days of Robson buying the old has beens on big money is starting to bite us in the arse big time and we will soon see the true damage his appointment did to SUFC, if this deadwood is not shipped out pretty sharpish we will be back to where we was when Colin took charge if we are not there already.

Just listened to the interview on RS with McCabe aboiut Beattie.

Wow, he sounds clueless. Dave Allen II :D

I'd say he sounded more agitated by the media.

They've put in an "enquiry" which involves "players" and nothing has been done, neither are we "negotiating".

Says he wants people to stop speculating, doesn't want to sell him unless we strengthen the squad.

Strengthening the squad doesn't hang on Beattie being sold. There are players they want to move out who are under performing and they are doing a lot more work on that front than anything to do with James Beattie.

He also says "there is no chairman with more ambition than this git".

he also says its not a big deal if BT goes.....

Im loosing faith in McCabe TBH

He also said "no-one can accuse me of lacking ambition". Yes they can! And they do! :D

I got a bit pissed off with him saying it was the media stirring it up and speculating to be honest. I started getting text messages at about 8am yesterday and they didn't stop until about 5pm. All in all I got about 20 from 6 or 7 different sources. None of them in "the media". How much rumour-mongering can be attributed to the media when most of it took place throughout the day???

...He also sounded confused (and shocked) that we, as supporters, were making a 'drama' out of it.

Perhaps it's just me but I imagine we, to an extent, have funded some of Beattie's wages and/or transfer fee and therefore have the right to inquire and speculate as much as we feel fit-especially when our biggest asset and undoubtedly the biggest key to us securing promotion is rumored to be leaving on the cheap.

Even his knockers on here would never accuse him of being that bad. He's a Blade for one thing, rather than a stinking pig, so he must have some sense about him.

Easy to see why people are getting agitated though. I don't think the club are handling the situation particularly well. For all our advancements, we can still look shockingly naive and unprofessional when we want.

On the McCabe interview
He didn't answer the questions thrust at him by PW, so what.
If any of us ran a company with lots of rivals and had goings on that were being speculated about would we want all our rivals to know all the in's and outs so they could know what your company was doing, or would you not answer the questions and leave all the other companies guessing even if it meant your customers didn't know.
I know which i'd do.
It's frustrating not to know whats going on, but better that way than every other team in the country knowing Uniteds business.

Its more the fact he was telling PW things then when PW asked him about it he told him to stop speculating. And the fact that selling our biggest asset and best goal scorer in a while is for the ambition of the club to move us to promoting and to stop making a dram of it, and stop speculating....

I think his point was, he's not been sold, so until he has its all speculation and drama for nothing.

But when PW was asking him to elaborate more he got agitated and aggressive which i wasn't pleased about.

It is drama for something though, or top goalscorer could be on his way....

I've heard from a good source, yes I know we all say this :), that It's in Beatties contract that he can speak to anyone above United in the table.

If so I think McCabe's talk was acceptable.

Do you lot think Paul Walker could run our club better than McCabe?

Oh dear!

:D:D:D

No i dont, but i think he could handle an interview better. And i dont think he's be telling fans and press to stop making a drama of it.

McCabe starts doing this and we could loose fans, people are fickle and with the CC about i didn't think it was a good approach from him.

But it is a Drama.......fans will always react in a dramatic way, and they have.

If there is any clause in his contract then it's only Beattie who can answer the questions.

Necessary or not, it's going to happen. He should be savvy enough to realise that, and you'd have thought someone with his business acumen would have been able to handle the situation far better than it has been.

I know he can't get into exactly what's going on, but he could at least have explained that a bit better. The timing of this is unfortunate to say the least with the interview he gave at the end of December. The point is, if you don't lie, you won't get yourself into trouble!
