Rumour has it that Kevin McCabe is to retire from SUFC, and sell his stake to an investor - possibly an American consortium.

Personally, I hope not; as much as I think McCabe made a mistake that he won't admit to in hiring Robson (and not getting rid of him), I still think he's the best boss we've ever had, and probably the best in English football.

He's retiring this year anyway isn't he?
But i'm sure he'd find a buyer with the best interest of the club at heart. But a bit more money wouldn't go amiss when we get back up:D:D

I hope he doesnt sell to the Americans they are already destroying football as it is. I dont want to see my club run by aload of yanks who only care about the $$$.

My heart sank when i first read this, i really hope for the sake of the club that we are never sold to the yanks, mccabe appointed robbo for the wrong reasons IMO, but he's been a great chairman especially when you look at other clubs or even our previous chairmen, hopefully he finds someone similar to himself, but 20 years younger

I think he said summat on Football Heaven ages ago about retiring from the board because he couldn't deal with everything from Belgium. Didn't think he was selling up though .......

I don't think he'll leave, he was looking for investment, not a take over....

"thank god i'm ever more determined that in 2008 I will work even harder with initiatives to bring United through. I aint gonna pack in, I aint gonna quit, I am a supporter just like every other fan, i'm gonna work harder to get it right, because i'm desperate for Sheffield United to be successful."

Here he is with his mrs Jamie, though I remember something in the news about him getting divorced.

Maybe they're going to release more shares and this bloke is after some, rather than McCabe selling up?? Just a thought:p

heard various rumours about the investors and what they've been doing... but can't really post most of them...

Here's a yorkshire post take on matters though:

The Yorkshire Post said:
EXCLUSIVE: Sheffield United have held talks about multi-million pound investment with an American private equity firm co-founded by U2 rock star Bono, it can be revealed today.

Representatives from Elevation Partners, based in Silicon Valley, California, were in Sheffield last week as the ambitious club stepped up its efforts to secure more funding to further expand a business which has already taken on significant outside leisure and property interests.

It can also be revealed that representatives of a separate US-based venture capitalist firm attended last Saturday's home match against Queens Park Rangers. The identity is not known although it is believed the firm is based in Boston.

A Sheffield-born businessman, who supports the Blades and is now based in the US, is understood to be involved in the talks in an advisory capacity.

The Championship club remained tight-lipped on the American involvement last night although sources have confirmed the talks, described as preliminary, revolve around significant investment and not a takeover.

The amount of money potentially involved is not known although United are keen to secure the kind of backing which would fund a team to ultimately compete in the top half of the Premiership.

Kevin McCabe, Sheffield United plc chairman, was unavailable for comment.

Mr McCabe has previously made clear his intentions to broaden United's interests overseas and has made no secret of his desire to secure new investment to create a competitive top flight club.

Bono's involvement in a private equity firm has raised eyebrows given his high-profile role in the campaign to tackle the chronic debt problems of developing countries. But his involvement is such that the company – Elevation – is named after a U2
song.

Elevation Partners began business in 2005 with funds of around £1bn to invest.

Elevation declined to comment last night.

The news comes after the club's own intended investment in Hungary's most famous club, Ferencvaros, was blocked by the Hungarian government yesterday because it said the tended bid was too low.

Woo-hoo! Bono for chairman! Larry Mullen jr. can be goalkeeping coach.

Woo-hoo! Bono for chairman!

Anything but that sanctimonious smug fecker. If he cares so much for the planet then he can make a start by not using valuable resources to make any more of that turgid shite he calls music. Then he can cut down on noxious emissions by shutting the fuck up.
And take those bloody shades off inside and at night. Twat.
