Player Suggestion McBurnie on loan

Can’t see him fitting into the quick high press, McB would nearly always jog to a player as he closed him down but slow down as he approached and not really put him under any great pressure but more hoping his presence would make the defender clear it or give it away, very rarely worked.

Just listening to Harlee Dean on under the cosh he said Selles tells his players no jockeying when they get to the player it’s get there fast and run straight through them. So must like really fit athletic and fast forwards/midfielders that can put in the work in the press.
Probably looked like he was jogging but really he was at full speed.

I think we pressed at our best under Hecky.
McAtee, Berge, Ndiaye, McBurnie.
If memory serves me correctly, there were those 6-10 games after he sorted himself out and bulked up where he pressed ok, but it always seemed a little half-hearted compared to those others.

Selles' system needs people to be able to hold up the high/wide ball. Not really his forte but he's decent if it's to his feet.

It's a poor do if we can't find someone other than Mcburnie, seems a nice guy but very limited as a footballer imo, we need better than this if we are to progress long term

If we were to re sign Ollie McBurnie, any optimism I might have for the future success of the new regime, would totally evaporate in the blink of an eye.

Absolute Insanity. 😉

He's the best presser of all our forwards at the moment
Wins the ball high up the pitch more than anyone but okay
He's good at winning aerial duels if that's what you mean? But for in-play pressing you need speed, agility, stamina, good passing and limited fouls. That's not how Moore plays.

Don't know what the stats are but I have seen Moore win the ball high up the pitch (on the deck ) more than all the other forwards put together with the possible exception of o hare

Nah someone must have been pulling your leg. Lowest number of tackles (in final third) p90, 2nd lowest interceptions p90, 2nd lowest ball recoveries p90.

No one is pulling my leg
I'm saying what I've seen with my own eyes
He wins the ball in the final third far more than any other striker early in the season he was clean through several times from his own pressing

But your point is right he is not traditionally the tupe you'd expect to be used in a high press

Okay I'll let Opta know

It's not just about chasing about and pressing, it's about keeping pressure on defences in other ways, winning 50-50s and getting it under control, and McBurnie is good at that, Moore isn't bad either

Balance is important as well. Would you rather have 3 attackers who are good pressers but lack physical presence or 2 who are pressers and 1 who has physical presence and the other attributes someone like McBurnie has?

We were good defending from the front when we had Ndiaye and McBurnie up there. That was about strength and ability more than anything. Ndiaye would press and hassle well but then also win the physical battles and keep the ball

If, according to some on here wilder is so good ,he'll be head hunted by another club soon and McBurnie can join him there
