I've defended McBurnie a lot but he's been poor lately, and today he was awful. That header summed him up. He was under a bit of pressure but got a good contact on it but got nowhere near the goal. And that was it.

Sharp and McBurnie is an awful combination which didn't help precedings, but he's done nothing positive for a long time

He lost the ball on halfway yesterday and just gave up

Mcburnie’s last interview was weird he was given a pretty soft ball question about the fighting in the street incident all he had to do was trott out the “it was a rash decision I’ve learned from my mistake and grown as a person” line but instead he said all he had to do was get better on the pitch and no one would care what he did off it. I found that quite an odd way to go with the interview

I still think (hope?) he could come good for us but it won’t happen until we get the ball to him towards goal. He seems quite capable attacking the ball when he’s defending so the long high ball to him doesn’t seem to be the best idea. Same with Billy, we know what he’s good at, challenging in the air with a six foot three centre back, thirty yards from the opponents penalty area facing his own goal isn’t it. I’d guess both are incredibly frustrated.

I've also stuck up for mcburnie in the past but yesterday was the straw that broke the camels back for me.

For someone who obviously thinks he can handle himself he's the softest bastard I've seen on a football pitch. Every centre half this season has bullied him and won the physical battle. And that header was woeful, convinced he had his eyes shut when he made contact. A 10 year old kid knows not to do that.

For me Jebbison starts in front of him next match. At least he can get round the pitch and doesn't look like a baby giraffe in deep sea diving boots like mcburnie.

Worst thing is that I know he’s capable. I watched him put in one of the best centre forward performances at the Lane for years when he bullied Chelsea at home season before last. That’s the McBurnie we need, not this version!

On the occasion we get a break down the wing on the counter, he doesnt attempt to bolt past the centre back into the box to get ahead of him, he just ambles forward like a 60 year old woman 20 miles into a marathon race

but also he’s not wrong. If he’d got 15 goals last season no one would care what he got up to or the clothes he wears. He’d be backed 100%.

I think many would over look it some would even buy into it as he’d be “living the lifestyle” but it isn’t what top players or professionals do.

if you’re out getting smashed every other weekend, you are clearly not dedicated to getting the maximum out of your career.

it’s why the likes of Rooney’s careers have fizzled out in to nothing. While messi and Ronaldo are still at the highest level in their late 30’s. It’s why Wiltshire doesn’t have a club in his prime.
