Available to leave Villa on loan. While I think Brayford was substantially better, I still think Lowton would be an excellent signing akin to the beard last season.

Championship clubs rumoured to be interested, but perhaps his past with the club would swing a decision to come to us instead.

*NOTE* Apologies to Pinch for suggesting a former bladey blade player.

If we're looking for loans other positions are obviously more important but Lowton would be a very good player in League One imo. Doubt he would come though, too much of a step down for a player who's still young and has been playing fairly regularly in the Premier League before this season.

Was one of my favourite players and would love to have him back, but cant see it at all.

There were times when we were crying out for an attacking right back yesterday, either when Campbell Ryce had cut inside and had no option to his right on the overlap, or when a cross came over from the left to the back post. Alcock just doesn't offer enough in this area for me. I know he's been flavour of the month, but if a better player is available, there is no reason we should not try to sign him.

No matter how good your players are, if better ones are available you should always try to sign them. That's how you improve.

Where's the apology to me for somebody once again using the player suggestion tag for a ridiculous suggestion?

There was no reason for John Brayford to sign for us last season other than one particular factor. He could have gone to pretty much any team in the league above. He came here due to Nigel Clough and had Cardiff not decided to start using him, would potentially be a Sheffield United player now.

I forget though Matt, this is your section and you're the boss as you seem determined to remind everyone in just above every sodding thread.

It's a ridiculous thing having a suggestion tag.. Who are you suggesting this to? Me, sat watching Ben & Holly's Little Kingdom with my daughter on a Sunday morning? Do you think Nigel Clough might read it and think "hang on a minute, I hadn't thought of that. In fact, I forgot Lowton signed from Sheff Utd so he must want to come back. I'll just load up my Football Manager game and see who his preferred clubs are."

Also - Brayford is a Championship player having never even played in the premiership... Ever! Lowton is a premiership player and will sign for a top-end championship club. That is why I deem the suggestion ridiculous.

So we're debating semantics now? When you go to the boozer and you discuss possible targets with mates, do you act as the moderator for the group and ensure there's no discussion of possible signings who have yet to be connected to the club? I'm guessing the 'Suggestion' tag is there, as a shorthand version of "Here's an idea, I wonder if the following player would be a good idea or possibility?"

Believe it or not, you could have actually just said "It's unlikely we'll be able to sign him, I imagine there'll be top end Championship sides in for him and regardless of his past connections, we don't stand a chance".

You carry on playing the patronising bore though.

I doubt he would come but I think it is a slightly more realistic suggestion than the "rumour" on sky's transfer site about us signing Jermain Defoe on loan till xmas :p I didn't post that one as I thought it too ridiculous for words as he cost the Canuts £6m I think.

Houso - the rumour mill is fine, it's good to read about players that are rumoured to be linked with us, whether that be word of mouth, a newspaper reporting it or something else.

The player suggestion tag is just pointless. Therefore, I will continue to "patronise" when people use it.

For what it's worth, I would welcome Lowton back with open arms mate but, it isn't gonna happen. He'll be on £25k wages (at least) and has played more premier league games than he has played League 1 games so it really is a non-starter.

Fingers crossed I'm proved wrong.

I agree that he'd be a cracking signing, but i would rather we bring in another Striker, rather than right back. We have Alcock and Davies as cover. For me, this would be signing a player for the sheer hell of it, not because we need him.

I think like Latters says though, while Alcock has been generally solid thus far (and this goes for left back too), we've really missed that attacking intent from full back so far. I think this would free up Alcock to cover central defence too and potentially negate the need for another player there.

That said, I couldn't agree more than a striker takes precedence, but I don't think it need be an either/or choice..

Some sense in that, but given a clearly limited pot of money, whatever you throw at yoru full backs isn't going to get spent on your forwards.

We have much bigger priortities.

The way we set up we don't necessarily need a prolific goal scorer as we look for goals from the front 5/6. A more attacking full back would hopefully bring those players into the game more and could be a good signing to bring the best out of the rest of the team, much like Brayford did last season

Oh by crikey we do need a prolific goal scorer. If we are to rely on Flynn, Murph, JCR et al to get the goals we will fall well short of the 70+ needed to get out of this league.

No need to get arsey lads we wont sign anyone worth more than 150 grand

We could put together like a kind of play off flops all star 11 of player suggestions though

Without it, people would post a "rumour" that someone was available and they thought we should sign them.

It's not a "suggest a player for Nigel Clough" tag, more a "not seen a rumour about this bloke, but he could do a job for us I think" tag :)

I like it as it saves me reading most of those posts. Previously the rumour box was supposed to be for vaildated rumours with a genuine source, but in reality people would just come on after a Football Manager session and just put up the latest hot prospect listed on there, or read that a former player hadn't played for his current club and stick his name up.

At least the 'player suggestion' tag lets you know you're visiting Fantasy Island, but without a little twat screaming about the plane.

Thought he had gone to Middlesboro?

I think they wanted him on a season loan but it looks like it never materialised.

There's no way he'd come here and as others have said, the kind of money needed to do it would be better spent elsewhere in any case.

ah right! id have him back if we had a decent person to get on the end of his crosses but as we dont...

If I was down the pub suggesting Matt Lowton as a signing for us, I'd have to:

a) Have had quite a few pints
b) Be with people who didn't know which division we were in
c) reach the 'list of SdP's suggestions for right backs who used to play for us, now play for Villa and are called Matt'.

Even then I don't think I would have come up with him as a suggestion :)

I don't think he'd sign for us.

Looks like he has fallen out with Villa fans tonight.

Although according to Lambert...

Edit: It seems true but still the villa fans are not happy and would rather she take his place in the team.

Iv'e got to admit, and i really do like the lad,but he was truly dire last night.I think he's struggling with not having much game time.

Villa were pretty dire in general. Their midfield looks awful. Lowton would do better in a more attack minded team.

Villa weren't good but Lowton's passing and crossing was propably the worst iv'e ever seen from him,it wasn't pleasant viewing from his point of view that i am sure of.
