I think we are starting to click.
We might not have brought in the big players that people wanted on deadline day but I do think we plugged some gaps.
I think the biggest thing for us going forward is momentum. I started to worry that Wilder was losing the dressing room, he had a ruthless clear out, upset some of the older players and even his new signings weren't performing for him. The Oxford game proved to me that I'm wrong and that the players were as relieved and happy as we were with the fight back. The team spirit is there, we a have some of the best players in the league and that's a fact, let's see how much some momentum and confidence can improve us even more.
Today is going to be tough, in a few weeks I'd want to start Lavery, Clarke and Fleck and it sounds like all 3 will be missing, so a point would do for me today.
I believe better wing backs will improve Duffy's game and if Scoogs keeps making me look daft I can see us nicking it late on.
I'd take 1-1 but I will say 1-2.

Gillingham 2.80 v Sheffield United 3.00, the draw 3.55

Sunday, 14:15
Live on Sky Sports 1

One of these teams resides in the play-off zone, and the other doesn't. The other being Sheffield United, who haven't got off to the dream start for a League One season that befits the title favourites, or should that be 'once-title favs'. Their price has gone out to 13.00, with Bolton now leading the way at 7.40.

The Blades gained their first victory of the season against Oxford last weekend, but a 2-1 success might just be papering over the cracks. A lot has been made of their brittle confidence, but they showed a fair bit of spirit and courage on Saturday, with Billy Sharp as the ace prizefighter once again.

I'm still shocked that Blades' boss Chris Wilder allowed John Brayford to leave, a player I often heap praise on. He's gone to Burton, whilst season-long loan deals involving defenders were secured on Wednesday with Ethan Ebanks-Landell (Wolves) and Daniel Lafferty (Burnley).

Considering United were 1.60 for their first home game of the season - this Sunday's price is absolutely massive.

Gillingham are another of those teams that can throw in a stinker at any given weekend. Everything has been ticking over this season, apart from a 5-0 loss to Scunthorpe. Again; it's that kind of league.

However, Justin Edinburgh's men have collected 10 points from five games thus far, and are fairly exciting going forward. Paul Konchesky's delivery continues to impress, as does powerhouse JET (Jay Emmanuel-Thomas).

The home team can score here, already they have netted three, two, one, nought and three from their run of matches so far, and their 3-5-2 formation certainly caters for them playing on the front foot.

Their recent 3-2 win at Shrewsbury was thrilling end-to-end stuff, and they withheld Town's best 45 minutes of the season. The Gills have not been the best of starters this term - coming from behind to win in four of their seven matches, and I cannot see Sheffield United being as negative as Swindon were when they visited the Priestfield.

Recommended Bets (half point)

Gillingham edge the wins historically 10-9 with 7 draws. We haven't beaten them in the last 3 meetings. We haven't scored against them in the last 3 matches.

Both sides are looking for their first clean sheet of the season. Discounting the Crappycup game we haven't had one in 7 games. They are even worse - 11 games.

Both sides have a habit of conceding the first goal (Gillingham have conceded the first goal in 13 of their last 14 games). We are the only side in the division still to score first in the division this season.

We have lost the last two away meetings (4-0 and 2-0) but won 4 and drew 1 of the previous 5 matches there.

The 2-1 win v Oxford was our first for 8 league matches. We had 5 defeats in that period. We have lost our last 3 away league games and 7 out of our last 10 on the road. So far this season we have previously been behind for 235 minutes in the league (the most in the division after 5 games) and have only led for 17 (the least in the division after 5).

Gillingham have the worst defensive record in the division (10 conceded to our 8). We have the third worst attacking stats (4 scored to their 9).

So a 0-0 is nailed on :p

I took my nephew and niece who were 7 and 5 to the first home game of the season many years ago when we played them. 0--0 it was then and what a totally dull, boring game that was. We'd been playing for 10 minutes and my niece said, "Uncle Chris, when are the football people coming out? " :D

Prior to lick-off, we were sitting quite close to the touchline as I thought the kids might like to be close up to the pre-match entertainment. Captain Blade spotted the kids and headed towards us. My nephew was nowhere to be seen. I looked around and he was cowering behind the seats a couple of rows back - Captain Blade had scared the shit out of the poor kid. :D

I would be happy with a point. At least we know it cant possibly be as bad as last time when we got destroyed 4-0 with no defence. But cant watch it on tv as just not possible no time. With work, Italian GP, Big Sam 1st England game so be on radio like usual for away games.

Big Sam's England can do one, I zero interest in watching that.

Interested to see if he brings the loan players straight in. Thought the lineup he used midweek was an odd choice, as if he knew the back 5 he wanted and opted to give them as much match time to gel as possible, then loans another two defenders. Will take a point

We haven't scored the first goal in a league match since Sharp scored at Shrewsbury on 19th April.

I can't see any other result than a comfortable 3 or 4 goal win for Gillingham (hope I'm wrong) shows how low we have slumped when many of us expect a defeat by the Kent pikeys.

3-5-2 then with Wright-Wilson-O'Connell

No Harry Chapman on the bench or is he on U19/ U21 duty?

This is not an opposition I am keen on facing with 3 at the back.

Oh well, see how it goes I suppose.

I think given the tweet that trailed the team news, your original suggestion is more likely.

Ah but does Wilder take the SUFC tweeter into his confidence or is he guessing based on the players picked like the rest of us?

I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Been the better team, one good free kick the difference. Probably should have had a pen.

What does Chris Basham actually do? He is terrible on the ball and doesn't even do the defensive side properly.
Jake Wright looks like a non league defender unfortunately. Can't fault his effort however.
