Decent report but one thing, your not a local rival just the same as Bradford and Rotherham aren't. Pigs and weeds are more rivals.

Deary me. Sorry if I've took the piss out of you if you have an actual disability.

He is from Sheffield. So to him it is very much a local derby.

Thanks for all the views, I hope everyone liked the report and photos :)

I am indeed from Sheffield, which maybe makes it a bigger rivalry to me than others. However, to me the fact that our grounds are less than 10 miles apart, we are in the same division and are even pushing at the same end of the table makes it a local rivalry, But that is just me!

Thanks again :)

No mention of how lucky that Chesterfield defender was in getting just a yellow card just before the 1st goal when it should have been red

Hi!

I'm an aspiring sports journalist and Chesterfield fan. I thought you might all be interested in reading my report and viewing a few photos from this afternoon's game. Any comments are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

To be a journalist you have to take the emotion out of the game and be subjective and report the facts. The fact that there is no mention of the incident with Margrietter before Ryan scored shows a lack of journalist instinct. The incident (whether it was red or not) was a game changer and you made NO mention of it.

Sorry, but that is poor journalism - you MUST report the facts - your proviso should have been to report the incident and to speculate, based on other incidents, whether it was more or less likely to have been a red or yellow card. If you were at the game you should clearly have noticed the away teams bench frustration at the incident, in a similar way to the home teams reaction to the Higdon red card.

You will get absolutely no where in journalism, until you portray a completely unbiased opinion to a game.

In other words you cannot really write reports on your own team unless you can remove the emotion. It really does create a level of respect as a journalist, to be honest !

We Blades have a similar opinion about Samuels of the Daily mail, and his rather biased comments about his team, West Ham. I actually like reading his articles (unlike some Blades), but steadfastly refuse to read anything he has to say about West Ham.

Good luck with the journalistic future.

Regards

Welcome back Ryan.

I picked up on the lack of mention of the lack of mention of the Margreitter/Murphy incident, in fact I re-read the article thinking I'd missed it, it was a vital decision (my view at the time was it was a red, he was last man, Murphy was through but that isn't the point).

I think Fulwood's being a bit harsh with the Fatty Samuels comparison, he's an adult who should know better, you're still probably not old enough to drive.

And yes, what was going on with that Meccano scoreboard?

Thanks you for all the views and feedback everyone, all is greatly received and taken on board.

I probably admit that this report may be slightly more biased than usual. However, I am a season ticket holder at Chesterfield and the report was written a couple of hours after beating one of my teams biggest rivals (in my opinion at least) for the first time in my lifetime. But all the comments regarding this are taken on board and I shall certainly learn from them.

I have actually received many comments from other supporters in the past praising how unbiased my reporting has been despite the fact I am writing about my team, and if you get the chance to read a few of my other reports then hopefully you will see this.

But thanks again for all the feedback, good and bad. It all helps me improve and every comment is appreciated.

How about adding the Margreitter/Murphy incident to your report? It takes only a few lines!

I found some of the comments about this lad's report to be a bit harsh. Ryan clearly has a nice narrative style and a glance at some of the reports by professional reporters is enough to appreciate that they often leave a lot to be desired. Also, isn't it a bit daft to say that Chesterfield aren't rivals/local rivals? Of course they are, and good luck to them!

Good stuff from you and some advice offered by others to help you along. My advice is to ignore the advice given to be "subjective" (which you probably were) and be "objective" instead. Sort out the good advice from the bad and use it as constructive. Good luck lad.
